So I'm itching to buy a modded GBA with a GBA 101 screen to play my old GB/GBC/GBA games on, but I'm not sure if I should buy one on ebay or pay twice as much to get one from retromodding just be be certain I don't wast money on a shoddy one. Does anyone have experience with getting one on ebay? How's the workmanship on it?

My friend bought one from electronic_convenient_4_you on ebay and he did not get chinked. Just get the one from greatest ally. I did the mod myself and I gotta say it would of been easier and cheaper to just buy from the chink.

I have an SP and it's nowhere nearly as comfortable as the original GBA. It also doesn't have a 3.5mm jack for audio lol.

I would jizz if Nintendo released a rechargable GBA with stereo speakers and a backlit screen.

>> No.4898187

Have these AGS-101 mods managed to get the screen using the 2nd brightness setting yet?

That's the only thing stopping me from ditching my SP.

Those look good and decently priced.

Actually, I first saw it here. The metal jesus whatever they're pushing on that website costs 500 bucks.

Nah, get a NDS Lite instead. It's the last Nintendo handheld to natively support GBA games and it's great at it. The form factor, the screen and all buttons are way more quality than any single GBA edition.

My hands cramped up playing DS Lite too. I couldn't even play any of the GBA F-Zeros on it. Same issues with the original 3DS; it's impossible for me to play through Star Fox 64 3D without bad hand cramps by the time I reach Andross. The original GBA and the original DS, as ugly as it was, had very comfortable shoulder buttons.

Does anyone else here really not like MetalJesus? I don't like the Dreamcast guy either. Am I wrong for my instinctive dislike for them?

Go for eBay. I just bought one from an eBay bid a week ago for 71 dollars. It doesn't have a brightness setting (kind of annoying at night when it's too bright), but I might just mod that on myself eventually. The one I purchased was in excellent condition and came from my state so it arrived fast. Just be sure to check on the eBay seller's ratings and profile beforehand.

No, a lot of people here tend to dislike people like MJR and Pat Contri for doing stupid shit like causing common as dirt games to raise up in price.

>year of our lord
>wanting to play games on a handheld.
Handhelds were a means to an end. A way to get some game on while on a road trip, or a vacation.

It's 2018. Get a Gameboy Player on a gamecube if you want to play on real carts. Otherwise just emulate that shit.

Guys like you are why we're in a price boom. Buying dumb ass shit like OG GBA's with backlit screens.

I don't understand it either. GBA was emulated 100% even back in its hay day. I remember playing Sonic Advance on some old version of VBA back in... 2003 or so? Nowadays we have mGBA which is even better.

It's a crazy fad for sure. Maybe in another 10 years there will be people claiming that "you never played Half-Life if you didn't experience it on a Win98 machine".

>> No.4902556

>>4902547
People like backlit GBAs because they play the entire GB/C/A library in native resolution, on real hardware, on a backlit screen. It's really not hard to understand. What is hard to understand, however, is why anyone would want to emulate handheld games on a computer.

>> No.4902561

GB and GBC games are retro, cunt.

>why anyone would want to emulate handheld games on a computer

Because a modern gamepad like DS4 is heaven compared to any GBA/NDS?

And my eyesight is not as great, I'd rather play these games on my 24" screen (integer scaling, no filters). Had a lot of fun replaying Metroid Zero Mission and Fusion this year.

>> No.4902615

>>4902569
But there are hardware based solutions to do just that (Game Boy Player). You can even get adapters to use a DS2 or SNES pad on the gamecube

drill a hole in the back, add a white LED and wire it to the battery.
