What PSX games use analog sticks for movement? I always use the D pad to move in MGS , RE , Twisted Metal.

>> No.4892531

True analog movement was pretty rare on the PSX because devs wanted games to be B/C with the non-dualshock cuntrollers.

I think ape escape had non-digital movement. But really you don't have anything as free as Banjo's movement on PSX.

Not true analog, it's still just either run or walk, no in-between.

Wipeout 3, though I still prefer the D-pad.

FFIX had also analog movement, which the Steam version lacks (but can be modded to use it)

So funny and yet puzzling. It’s probably a bad game and the controls probably aren’t that responsive but how did they not immediately see that this made perfect sense for FPS console controls?

I always wondered if games like this and 007 budged too much into the first person gun and hand, why they run like shit

>> No.4894371

>>4893554
You probably weren't around when movement wasn't bound to WASD, some games even did WADX, arrow keys were still bound, fire was on control, and it goes on.

I've got some MadCatz controllers that map the analog to d-pad so you can use a stick for games taht don't support it. It doesn't offer any precision but I like the convenience of using an analog stick. I use it on everything.

That’s true but it was the standard by 2000 when this game came out. It only predates Halo by a year.

Two games that are objectively better with them are Armored Core & Unreal Tournament, the latter being better using a PS1 dualshock

crash bandicoot 2 isn't true analog

>> No.4894796

>>4894721
do you have calibrate option in the pause menu? So you have dual-shock enabled in the emulator? Because it does have analog movement, when you push the analog slightly Crash moves slowly and when you push fully he runs, there is noticeable difference.

>> No.4894809

>>4892531
Implementing true analog movement has nothing to do with backwards-compatibility. That's what the analog button is for.

>> No.4894945

>>4894809
Yeah but a game still has to be programmed to actually have a full range of analog movement. Most older games are either walk or run.

>> No.4896272

>>4896220
I guess reading comprehension problems, because I don't know what the fuck you're trying to say. Unreal Tournament didn't have a PS1 port and I doubt the PS2 version supported PS1 controllers.

>> No.4896279

>>4896272
Any PS2 game that uses normal controllers (i.e. not Guitar Hero/etc) and doesn't rely heavily on pressure sensitivity (not Mad Maestro) can use PS1 controllers.
