That's what I was trying to say.
The only place where freelook clearly makes it much easier from a gameplay point is the icon of sin and maybe the cyberdemon because fighting him with just a keyboard in 98' was tough.

Right now I just made a senario and what areas you'd go through level by level. That helps me think of what could be in the areas, after that I think of what could be part of that theme. When it comes to making the map I have found myself getting slightly wilder and wilder, or at least I think so.

I really don't plan anything out, I just make section by section at a time, and think of what would be neat to have to that section of the map in hopes that each part would at least be somewhat memorable through a small skirmish that is triggered or how the room looks aesthetically (or to the best of my current ability with it).

I will say that freelook does allow you to get shots off in some cases that auto-aim would not have allowed, like just barely looking over a ledge and shooting straight down.
