>People say N64 and Saturn emulation are awful.
Okay first off, people who say Saturn emulation is awful are just idiots. If you wanna emulate Saturn and get some good rips. Trurip to be exact. Mednafen and SSF are great. Yabause is stupid.

With N64 things are splintered and obfuscated, very plugin oriented, and devs don't exactly have a unified approach. They should all just join forces. Project64 (the most popular N64 emulator) for example had constant regressions (they went backwards and created new problems with new releases) despite being most somewhat stable back in the 1.6 days. Just to give you an idea of how bad it was, 1.6 was nearly 10 years ago. Hilarious stuff.
Mupen64Plus is generally the better N64 emulator with wider compatibility/less problems.
Then there's the N64 driver (Angrylion) in MESS which in 2013 was said to be extremely CPU dependent and even the best i7s couldn't run at fullspeed most of the time. Now I haven't followed up on Angrylion or Mupen in quite some time so my opinion is subject to change. Probably going to mess with it again after work.
There's a fork of angrylion called CEN64 that hasn't shown anything impressive and looks like stuttery unplayable bullshit. Have I tested it? No.
Retroarch has ParallelN64 which is looks like another pointless fork of angrylion Have I tested it? No.
There's also the WAD injection method used on Wii/Wii U. Compatibility is spotty and limited as each game has its own environment based around individual games. An environment for one game wouldn't be suitable for several other games.

Mobile N64/Saturn? Haven't tested it, but I plan to.

If you wanna see how bad N64 emulation is play games that aren't developed by Nintendo. If you wanna get specific try 3rd party stuff like Goemon's Great Adventure, Castlevania, Gauntlet Legends, Factor 5 games (Indiana Jones/Star Wars), Rareware games, and games that use mostly 2D assets.

DK won't register projectiles at a certain distance, which makes you have to stand closer to switches than you'd need to on the console. I was still able to 100% it and it might have a fix I just didn't look for. Timer used to go down too quickly, but that had an easy fix.

Some games have graphical errors but nothing I can't just ignore, sort of like how I don't even really register the dead pixel on my monitor anymore

Mario Kart: Single player is flawless. Multiplayer is all sped up... and if you drop the emulation speed, it sounds like shit.
Goldeneye: Single player looks fine. Multiplayer has flickering and flashing. No good.
Smash Bros: Uh... Just ain't right.

Then I gave up because the key problem that got me started on N64 emulation was Goldeneye looks like shit on the OG hardware. With the hi res hack, Goldeneye looks decent, so I'll just stick with actual N64. Would be nice if Mario Kart was given the same treatment (480i).

n64 emulation is great but plugin dependent and some games need certain settings. nintendo fans are mostly retarded though and assume a game not running on default settings means the emulator is terrible. an easy way to spot this type of user is if they mention a popular game like paper mario not working.

saturn emulation was decent in ssf but mednafen made it great.
