Vertex-shaded geometry. There are no bitmap textures anywhere in all of the skydomes for the first three Spyro games.

Great choice, OP. I would go with the blazoned Spyro (1,2,3) >>4877820 but that's easy mode, really. Some old FPS had great pixel arts, imho. Especially my favorite, Heretic.

Ratchet & Clank is the first coming on top of my mind. Great trilogy / tetralogy, and the skyboxes are proud Insomniac hallmarks. inb4 not retro; it's PS2, not that shallow remake

Unreal did a few great ones. I also still remember the chill I got in Half Life coming out of that pipe with the desert and mountains spread out in front of me. A river so far off it looked tiny. Then a jet screams by. Good skybox, GREAT moment.

It... doesn't even look "retro". That could easily be a ps3 game. 17 year old, redditor faggots who only have time to visit the board because it's summer.

I've seen lots of PS2 games here so i was pretty confident. Turns out it's not retro and everyone that said otherwise, like me, was wrong. Thank you for being polite though, unlike people like him >>4881682 who have an urge of showing off how much of a dickhead he is, just for the sake of being a true edgy 4chan kid. fyi, i didn't post only that. I was the same one who posted about Tekken 3, Unreal and Heretic. Now between us, who's the 17yo summerfag? Go back to /v/, maybe it's for the better.

The rules are generally 'bent' pretty often. In general, it seems mods/janitors don't intervene as long as the discussion stays MOSTLY on retro games.

Also, back on topic - I think Half Life's skyboxes are pretty neat. Here's a video on them.

You seem really sensitive, mr reddit summer boy, try reading the plainly stated rules (which you obviously don't even know where to find, since you're so new)

Most of the skyboxes weren't eerie at all, but damn, the skybox for the final level looked like hell itself. (If hell is purple, that is. I wouldn't know, haven't been there.)
