Because finding a CRT that supports CH95/96 is a goddamn pain, unless you use a shitty LCD, then you're good to go.

Personal recommendations: Armadillo, The Ninja-Kun games, Wing of Madoola, Mother, Thexder, Holy Diver, Zippy Race, and that's all I can think of, because I can't get to my games right now. I insist on getting a Disk System with that Famicom, bucko.

See the link in >>4877432. The original 100V ac adapter for the Famicom will technically work on US 120V, but it will overheat the AC adapter and will damage it over time, which makes it a fire hazard. You need a step down transformer to use it safely, like this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PC4SVU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_VuWoBbB3PB8CD

Japan: 100v
USA: 120v
Just don’t leave the system plugged in when you aren’t using it. I have a Japanese MegaDrive PS1 and PS2, I run them through a surge protector and haven’t had any problems. My MegaDrive and PS1 I have had for 9 years, my PS2 I’ve had for 2 years. They are free of any problems.

If I am remembering correctly Europe is 240v, so if in Europe obviously use a step down converter.

Not home computers. You'd find them at offices or universities, but rarely at home. Computer hardware in Japan has always been expensive and people have shoebox homes that lack space for a computer setup.

Another hindrance to widespread computer adoption in Japan was that until 32 bit machines became common, it wasn't possible to display kanji characters.

What are MSX computers? MZ80 & MZ700 series? PC-6001 series? FM7 series? All of these are home computers.
Even office computers like the PC-8801 found their way into homes by 1983 with the arrival of models like the PC-8801mkII, with it's clearly advertised home computer use.
Also, let's not forget that the VIC20 was hella popular in Japan too.

Bullshit, PC-8801 and PC-9801 computers (8bit and 16bit computers respectively) displayed kanjis. MSX computers could be equipped with JIS level 1 and 2 kanji ROMs, despite being 8bit computers. Sharp X1 computers could display kanjis too, despite being a 1981 Z80-based computer. And even if many MSX models didn't have kanji ROMs, they could still display kana characters.

That's frequency. Half Japan's use 50Hz, the other half use 60Hz, bur the voltage is alway 100V. Before that there probably was a frequency selector, like there were voltage selector on many electrical appliance.

It's not going to cause an electrical fire you idiot. It's also not going to damage the console, because it's internally regulated to 5V anyway. At worst, you're putting a bit more heat into your AC adapter, which theoretically could reduce its lifespan slightly, but in practice it'll be just fine. If it ever dies, buy a newer, more efficient one for $10.

>> No.4878720

>>4878697
Just because it has a regulator doesn't mean more voltage than it wants won't hurt it. You're putting more load on the regulator than it was designed for and overheats it as well, shortening both its lifespan and the components around it. There's also an unregulated circuit in it that seems to be for the accessory port which won't be happy either.

Just an incredibly robust (for the time) BASIC interpreter and a few games that used its audio input/output to save game data to tapes before Famicom Disk System and Cart Batteries.

Excitebike, Mach Rider, and Wrecking Crew all utilize it. In fact, even American carts are programmed to work with it despite no tape deck or keyboard existing for the NES. You can use an AVS though to save and load with it using American Cartridges.

I got a Sharp Twin Famicom for like $60 and once I got the Disk System working it was probably one of my best purchases ever. They can be pretty cheap if they're listed as the disk system not working but 90% of the time it's just the belt which is a fairly easy fix, and if not the internals are identical to a regular disk system so you can just grab another and swap it if you really need to. Power might be an issue but it's a good idea to just leave it unplugged when not in use.

Mysterious Murasame Castle and Mario 2 (Lost Levels) are must haves for the FDS, Arumana no Kiseki is another that's pretty decent and has good music. There's a lot of Namco ports that you can get pretty cheap and some never got NES releases (Dig Dug, Pac Land, etc.), Takeshi's Challenge is worth it just for shits and giggles, Devil World and Mother both kind of suck in my opinion but are worth having. Really just do what I did and grab random lots or pick up random games for like $1-$2 each from japanese eBay sellers and just see what you get, a lot of Famicom stuff is pretty damn cheap.

Goddamn Famicom collecting was addictive.
