I tried so hard to like it, but the controls are just absolute shit.

From the polls over the years it's usually been the case from what I can tell. And we can still reminisce about games, I'm in my 40's and do it here most every day. I also almost entirely emulate now though as well.

There's a romhack somewhere that makes up diagonal up-left, right diagonal up-right, down diagonal down-right, and left diagonal down-left. Like these games are supposed to be played. Makes the game far less annoying if you're used to your iso-platformers, and the menus are still fine. Dark Savior gets this right and its by the same team.
