Can't speak for the Atari one, but the Genesis one is awful. It's essentially just a Sega on a chip, so even when you do actually plug in a game, it's just a very poor emulation.

SNES:
Hagane

>Should I just do that instead?

It's really up to you. Doing it with a Wii would probably let you do more things and attach a hard drive for more storage. Storage is definitely an issue on the SNES Classic if you're the type who likes a full romset. NES Classic fits every NES game and a lot more if you want other systems.

I have both a modded Wii with retro and used that before I got the actual consoles I have now. I got the "Classics" because they are kind of a neat licensed product and I suppose I like suckling the onion-ring flavored teats of Nintendo. They look kind of neat and are easy to take to places that only have hdmi.

So if you want a collector's piece, or to pretend you're a giant, get the Classics, if you just want to emulate retro games, a Wii is a better choice.

Shit, just noticed you said Wii U. I have no idea on that but I'll leave this blog in case it helps someone.

I dont know the battery life. why anyone would want a battery powered controller is beyond me. I just bought an extension for my controller for $10 and I dont have to worry about charging, syncing or batteries dying 2 years after you bought it and having to buy old hardware online with no fabrication date meaning they will die soon after you buy it again.
