Haven't even tried out everything, but it's the perfect emu machine, even though the buttons and d-pad could have a little more quality, but you get used to it. In some really fast arcade games it lacks precision at the beginning, but it's habituation. Ony the PSP emu is shit (but manhunt 2 works), but they work on it. Vita has a version of RetroArch that runs on the Vita side of things rather than PSP. It adds support for a whole bunch more stuff, including DOS, PC98. Also Quake. Not powerful enough for Dreamcast though, but you do get Nvidia Gamestream through Moonlight as a consolation, which runs about as well as PS4 remote play.

I do think the future is with the Switch though. It's early days and you should definitely go with the Vita if you want a complete experience now, but I can see homebrew developers abandoning Sony hardware for it. The Switch really is the Vita 2.

I can say the emulation under Retroarch natively is miles better than the PSP/using PS emulators on the Vita. SNES and TG16, in particular, are flawless now, which were the big hangups on the PSP. The fact that we can emulate the VB at all (even if its half speed) is neat- my hope is that with a broader audience interest in optimizing cores will renew and we will see it catch up to other Android devices in that area.

This irrational hate for SNES on PSP needs to stop. You all are really overeacting.
I've played SNES on my PSP for years and there's been only 3 games that have run under playable FPS which were:
Kirby's Dreamland 3 for the SA1 Chip.
BS Kaizou Tyoujin Shubibinman Zero which is a super specific case.
and Yoshi's Island because FX Chip.

Literally every other game has worked perfectly. It's not the PSPs fault you don't know how to tweak literally a couple of settings to achieve stable 60fps per game.
Both PSP and even o3ds are super good for SNES, and if you have a New, you can even play FX and SA1 chip games at 60.

i never said it was running them perfectly fucking tard, i asked anon to try to run star fox on it and IF it runs great, then it's pretty fair to say the fullset should run at a constant 60 fps.

Im the guy. It did come across as if you said starfox would run at 60fps.

how on earth can you just not understand what IF means. did you tried starfox? did it run great? no? so you should be able to conclude that your device just cannot run the snes fullset at decent speed. got it now?

Dont get mad because you typed something in a way that it could be easily misconstrued on the internet. More than one person has already thought you said that starfox would run at 60 fps or that you were familiar with the gp2x. That is how it comes off as. Going back and rereading it, i see what you are saying, but its too late for that now.

Own the shield portable and tablet and will agree more. A very powerful Android device at the time which can do emulation quite well for 16 to 32bit console. Unfortunately, the second hand market for the portable (let alone the tablet) is getting harder to find and both have it's own issue to worry about now (mostly coming down to battery issue).

Also, the sales of the portable when it came out in the market sold poorly to the point, producing a portable 2 might not make sense anymore even though the prototype did leak out. Hence, the cost of the portable in the second hand market (and in some ways the tablet and K1 version) is much higher and isn't worth the cost when they're other Android handheld which you can use for emulating old console games.

Depends on the game, ROM injection doesn't seem to work equally well for all games.

I used to own a portable (sold it on CL eventually) and could never get used to the controller. Sticks felt very weird, and everything was a little too stiff.

I have a shield TV now and love it, but still can't use the controller for actual gaming.

Odd as the one I own (well...two as one is going to be back up parts to fix the one I am using down the road) feel okay to use when playing emulation games on it. I guess it depend on the type of controller from console you like the most.

On some reading, Nintendo doesn't support the SA-1 or Super FX chips with their official emulator. SNES9x seems to run SA-1 games at full speed without frame skip on the New 3DS though and some Super FX games supposedly just have occasional slowdowns when running without frameskip on the New 3DS. I also found a game compatibility list:

If you install CFW on a PSP, can you then remove the hack or whatever to make it look like a PSP that’s ever been tinkered with? CEX do two year guarantees on hardware bought but I’d imagine that would be invalidated if they thought you’d hacked the console.

>> No.4892113

>>4891838
There are softmods (PSP FastRecovery) that work with every model, you just run an app when you boot to hack it, reboot to remove it- much like the h-encore hack for the Vita. Best way to go IMO, that way you don't run the risk of bricking or banning your console.

Does cheap Androind PSP clone surpass Dingoo A320 or such (and PSP) in emulatable consoles?

>> No.4893669

>>4893456
It depend on what consoles you want to emulate the most at 100% speed as not all Android Handheld will emulate as well depend on specs.

Some I can think of if you're interested in this path and more common (too many no name android game handheld you can found)

GPD XD (plus)
Nvidia Shield Portable (old and harder to find)
Nvidia Shield Tablet (OG/LTE/K1)
JXD S7800 (quite old and harder to find)
Archos GamePad (Old and harder to find and not worth the cost)
JXD S7300B

Agreed. They are hard to find but people don't know what they are, and they are out there. Check the Goodwills and thrifts.

The tablet, in my opinion, is pointless, as there are better tabs out there now for cheaper than the second market. The Portable, on the other hand, is just spectacular. I would highly recommend making it a white whale for your flea market searches.

The batteries can be replaced with some easy soldering, and with three brand new Sanyo 3.7V 2450mAh batteries installed, you can get like 12 hours out of it! Plus, comfy controller makes it even better than the PSP for PSP games.
