So do you think the prototype is out there? Or is it in the hands of Nintendo/Shigesato Itoi?

Feel free to discuss other prototypes or alpha & beta builds of released games.

>> No.4863778

Itoi probably has a prototype cartridge/disk but I imagine he thinks it's garbage compared to the final product.

>> No.4863819

Some "well known releaser" on here was supposed to upload it a few months back. I wonder what happened...

>> No.4863824

>>4863819
Yeah that was probably a fake. I remember hearing about it. Did they take any pictures at least?

>> No.4863843 [DELETED]

Not retro. Not released before 2000.

>> No.4863851 [DELETED]

>>4863843
It's an n64 prototype, so yeah, it's fucking retro

>> No.4863852 [DELETED]

OP is talking about the prototype for N64 my man, not the GBA game.

>> No.4863870

>>4863774
It's definitely out there. I refuse to believe it is not. Someday, we will get to play this semi-finished prototype. Mato will even make a fan translation of it, I'm sure.

>> No.4863871

>>4863870
I'm not even convinced the word semi-finished would even apply. To that matter, if a beta was released, and it included a small town, a few surrounding areas wouldn't everyone just be saying "there's got to be a later version!"

>> No.4863876

>>4863871
Unfortunately there's no way to know for sure just how done the game is/was. Even word from Itoi and Miyamoto conflicts.

>> No.4864049 [DELETED]

>>4863851
Wasn't released before 2000. That's the rule to be retro. Not retro.

>> No.4864051

>>4863774
IIRC some guy who worked on Mother 3 talked about playing the N64 beta, so it does exist if he is telling the truth.

>> No.4864056 [DELETED]

So I guess that means that late n64 games and dreamcast games go out the window, huh?

>> No.4864057

Yeah it exists, a playable version was at space world. The thing is if it was ever leaked or not.

A prototype/demo cart does exist according to Brendan Sechter, an American who worked on Mother 3 for debugging. He recalls his experience playing it.

>Brendan: Well, the president of Brownie Brown said that if I want to try out the N64 prototype, it’s in the meeting room. I wasn’t a Mother fan, but I was trying be enthusiastic about my position there, so I tried it out. As far as I can recall, it was most of the first chapter (with a very Flintstones feel) and some cut scenes. The game crashed toward the end of the chapter.

>> No.4864083

Don't worry, everyone.

The guy who owns the prototype sent it to Byuu to have the ROM dumped and preserved.

We can all rest easy.

>> No.4864086

>>4864074
Honestly I think he would do a fine enough job. He quite enjoys doing interviews for fans so he definitely is someone who cares about the series. His work on Earthbound had its flaws, including stuff that wasn't the fault of NoA's strict guidelines, but after having read the LegendsofLocalization analysis where Tomato looked at the entire game's script I feel he really did good work on Earthbound.

>> No.4864110

>>4864086
Even with the censorships/localization changes that were made I still consider it to be the best translation of any game of that era, it reminds me a lot of The Simpsons as a matter of fact

Oh god please don't joke like that. But still, I wouldn't be surprised if it is in some horder's collection.

yeah but it wasn't. if i make a pc game right now and say "i meant it to come out in 1994" is it retro?

What a crock of shit this "article" is. I mean, even if we didn't know exactly what these scenes are from playing the finished game (I'm actually shocked at how much the story seems identical) how the fuck can you extrapolate that that bar inn screenshot is from a first person viewpoint? 90s games journalism was the worst
