Because people only care about games around here. And TRS-80 model 1 games existed... but that's about the best you can say for them.

But it terms of useful computers normal people could afford in the '70s, it was pretty dang good.

So far as retro PC games are concerned, the only platforms that matter are C64, Amiga, and PC compatibles. The rest can be ignored without you missing a thing.

It's caused by contention between the CPU and the video circuitry--they can't both access the video RAM at the same time.

The Apple II avoided this problem because the 6502 only accesses the RAM every other clock cycle and Steve Wozniak found that he could have the video circuitry refresh the RAM during the odd-numbered cycles. So no problems with flicker or snow like the TRS-80 or PET.

It is an unfair comparison anyway since the Atari 8-bits didn't have a lot of arcade ports including essentially everything from the late 80s aside from those piece of shit conversions of Gauntlet and Arkanoid I linked.

That man really was clever. Even though the limitations of the Apple II were painfully obvious by the early 80s and Apple never really significantly expanded on the platform, there’s no denying that in 1977 no other computer even came close. A micro with color? A disk drive that didn’t cost as much as the base computer? Basically limitless expandibility?

God I sound like a bonafide shill

pc98 and x68000 were miles ahead of everyone in the west. both machines served as development systems for arcades. the CPS arcade system was directly based on the x68000.

commodore ended up with atari st ports of some arcades because programmers were so fucking lazy. so lazy in fact they didn't even bother fixing colours to look right on the amiga. st and amiga arcade conversions (all of them) were fucking terrible.

you would know this if you EVER owned an amiga or st..

The arcade game used twin Z80s at 6Mhz. You'd need a proper 16-bit CPU to match that kind of speed.

There are reasons why it was called the trash-80 -- bad overall quality.

>You'd need a proper 16-bit CPU to match that kind of speed.
No. Only one of the two Z80 was used as the main CPU, the other was the sound CPU, only controlling the audio chips.
