I just beat Symphony of the Night and it was pretty gud but way too easy. Haven't played any of the other games though, which ones are good?

>> No.4859109

It's funny how Konami games like SOTN and MGS are impossible to discuss here because one poster's autism hate boner stops it.

>> No.4859110

start with the NES games if you think that sotn was too easy

>which ones are good?
1, 3, 4, Rondo, X68000, Belmont's Revenge, Bloodlines, Dracula X SNES.
They are nothing like SOTN though. If you want to play a hybrid between classicvania and SOTN-style games where you explore more, play Simon's Quest and the MSX Castlevania.

That's fine, let the shitposting begin.
If OP is truly new to the series, I'm just giving him the games that are playable and objectively good.
Nobody really cares about subjectivities and elitism.

It's still plenty possible though. Hyper autists getting triggered by popular games is great comedy.

>>4859120 This anon showed the fun classic Castlevania games, but there are fun exploration ones too.If SotN was too easy, try Circle of the Moon on GBA.

>> No.4861108

>>4859068
My fav is Rondo.
If you want a metroidvania try aria of sorrow for gba or order of ecclesia for ds.
They are not retro but enjoyable.
Aria is similar difficulty wise to sotn but with much better balance, bosses can kill you easily in late game, OoE will kick your ass relentlessy.

>> No.4861325

Play circle of the moon and aria of sorrow for good ones similar to SOTN.

CV3, Rondo, and Drac X are great, but they feel very different from SOTN

>> No.4861449

Unfortunately Portrait of Ruin's hard mode must be unlocked by beating the game. That's probably the best Castloid, play it on hard mode lvl 1 cap.

>> No.4861765

>>4861449
It is good, though I don't like the levels in it much. The DoS extra mode is good too.

OoC would be perfect if it didn't have glyph griding and the levels were connected into an open world.

>> No.4862027

>>4859068
My favourites besides SOTN are Rondo Of Blood, Order Or Ecclesia and Aria Of Sorrow. Bloodlines, Castlevania 1, Harmony Of Dissonance(yes, I like it) and honestly any of the GBA/DS games have their charms. To be fair I like almost every Castlevania game but if you want another game like SOTN most will probably point you to Aria Of Sorrow and if you want a linear style game many like Super IV and I love ROB. Either way I hope you have fun.

>> No.4862049

>>4861325
Harmony is closest to SOTN with its reverse-side, just get a pallet hack to make the colors better. It was made with the non-backlit GBA in mind and looks disgusting on a proper screen.

>> No.4862075

>>4862049
Also closest in the no-challenge department

My favorites are Aria of Sorrow and Curse of Darkness.

>> No.4862508

>>4859068
Rondo is hands down the best one. The metroid ripoffs (SOTN onwards) are all the same generic gameplay wise and then they turned it from goth horror into teenage anime melodrama.

>> No.4863721

>>4859068
>which ones are good?
All of them except Order of Ecclesia. Ignore that garbage.

>> No.4863750

>>4863721
But OoE is the second-best castleroid after CotM, you plebian.

>> No.4863757

>>4863750
Not him but I found it lacking. That it's finally not piss easy was good but they dropped the ball on so much else. Collecting and leveling glyphs gets to be a real chore. The level design is really lacking and made worse by not being connected. The only really hard platforming is kept for the bonus dungeon. It's nit awful, but feels like so much wasted potential.

>> No.4863786

>>4863757
I like OoE for making side quests actually fun and rewarding for once, and I also like how game encourages you to try different abilities; they don't have cryptic range or MP limitations, and many bosses and enemies make way too unviable to tackle them with a standard sword.
I'd also argue the maps are better than the average, they may have simple patterns, but it's more interesting that being confined to a castle. PoR did it better though.

>> No.4863801

>>4863786
I did like not being confined to the castle, that's for sure. I think it just feels so close to the Castlevania I wanted that the ways it fails really stand out.

>> No.4863943

>>4859068
There's a Hardtype version you can google that makes the game much much less of a cakewalk.
