Why even bother replying? Seriously, the fact that the game lacks a save functionality seriously diminishes its playability outside emulators

It is astoundingly easy to collect extra lives in Mario World and if you are one of those people who can manage to end your game, you just continue and get five more from your last save.
If you save often enough, the amount of lives you have is trivial.

>> No.4796595

>>4796434
Games designed with no save function in mind take the pacing of the entire game into account, and compose the game in ways that keep the player engaged and reward mastering the game mechanics.

Games with save files encourage I-wanna-be-the-guy style difficulty where every obstacle is a precision platform pattern memorizing mess that's "Forgivable" because you only have to complete it one time before you save and never look back.
Or they keep the game piss easy, but add collectable coins everywhere since there's no longer a reason for you to replay any stages or bother looking for bonuses like extra lives.
Or, they're skinnerboxes with daily rewards and no actual fun gameplay to them.

Save files killed Classic mario.

I agree. SMB3 was released way too late in the NES' lifespan to not have an internal save function.

Try Blaster Master. No save or password system and the game is quite long with maze like caverns and backtracking. Truly a 'leave the system on all weekend' type game.

Understandable for the younger generation. Those of us who didn't have better got used to the concept of trying, so no save function is fine, although it would have been appreciated.
