What are some good game and watch games?

>> No.4787134

I've never played the originals but the Game Boy and Game Boy Color had some pretty good remakes. Try those out.

Of the various LCD games I've owned over the years. G&W was probably the only consistently good line. Most others were clear wannabe knockoffs, just weren't designed as well, or tried to add some kind of gimmick that compromised things overall (ie. 2-in-1 games.) Then Tiger broght the category to all new lows.

Only non Nintendo LCD that really stuck out for me was Tomy's Slimline Speedway.

I actually found one of these in the bushes when I was a kid around 1990 or so, it was donkey Kong.

It had dual-screens in a clamshell design that the later NDS reminded me of but it was a hideous orange so I never wanted to use it in public.

Fun game though. That battery lasted forever.

They're not good, tho

>> No.4788946

Why are game and watch so expensive? Did they just not have strong sales, and then the Nintendo tax took effect? Did people get rid of them often too?

My guess would be alot of people threw them away. When you had an NES they seemed outright primitive. Now i'd imagine people collect them for their aesthetic and cultural history value first than the gameplay.

They had absolutely massive sales throughout the 80s but like >>4790036 said nobody really looked after them.

For example I have a Mario Bros dual screener which someone (definitely not me, honest) decided to dismantle and remove the polarising sheet in the upper screen. It still plays and bleeps etc just you can't see what the fuck is going on.

My favorites are Donkey Kong Junior and Greenhouse. I've spent hours playing Greenhouse in the Game & Watch Gallery.

You should be able to get the Nintendo Mini Classic versions of Game & Watch games for cheap on Amazon or ebay. You'll see brand new sealed versions go for less than ten bucks sometimes.

There were some soviet variants with egg replaced by Nu Pogodi characters. I remember that game fondly.

No. They aren't good so they can't be the only good lcd games out there.

>>4788946
They're poor quality disposable toys. Also, hipsters.
