Kabuki Quantum Fighter - Just a really strange but fun action platforming game for NES later in the system's life. Great animations, good music, an all around really fun game.

1998 - The Fallen Angels (Arcade/MAME)

This is easily one of the best "forgotten" fighting games I've ever played. There were probably 500+ fighting games made in the 90s and this was created by PSIKYO who is known mostly for their amazing shoot-em-ups.

The Fallen Angels is a beautiful 2-d fighting game with great animation, characters, and backgrounds. It was sadly rushed towards the end and there are only eight playable characters (plus 2 unlockable boss characters). There are no character endings which hurts the game, however I would rec a few playthroughs of this game.

What is special about this game is that a number of team members went over to SNK and this was used as a beta version to help animate and create the legendary Fatal Fury: Mark of The Wolves.

Also, Fallen Angels has the best sound effect for a credit insert...I just fucking love it. Weird I know.

You know that game was supposed to have paddle controls like Forgotten Worlds but they ditched it to manufacture cut costs, but the machine still recognizes the paddle if you use an unofficial adapter.

Demise. It's basically if you took Eye of the Beholder and made it multiplayer with up to 16 people per dungeon...there's even a version right now that's being updated with new content and one of these days I'd like to get a bunch of people together on here to play it online.

Sub Culture, an underwater resource trading game similar to Freelancer but with submarines and underwater bases. It has a goofy charm to it, especially the cutscenes which are in-world news broadcasts about your exploits.

Sadly there just aren't that many. Not until recently with Narcosis, Subnautica and SOMA. Also the Aquanox series, though that's nearly /vr/ material by now.

You might like In The Hunt, it's a submarine shmup made by the Metal Slug team before they did Metal Slug.
