What CRTs are particularly aesthetically pleasing? I'm looking for a smaller desk TV and I've seen some really nice looking Sony ones. Anything else out there in this sort of style?

Depends entirely on your living arrangements and the type of model you’re pursuing. For instance, a 20” PVM weighs around 70 pounds thanks to using an aperture grill while monitors of similar size are noticeably lighter.

Get whatever you’d be able to carry into the room you want to put the monitor in. If going alone and up a lot of steps, would suggest not going for a monitor that weighs more than 40-50 pounds regardless of screen size.

He's talking about megadrive games, not IBM PC ones.
PC game devs did take advantage of CGA composite out because despite being shit for text stuff it offered a huge advantage in term of colors available. Composite video on a megadrive offer nothing though.
>>4777434
>muh dithering
Every single dithering effect used in megadrive games were already in use in PC-88 games and some arcade games. PC-88 computers output RGB or monochrome video. Arcade boards usually output RGB, some earlier ones monochrome or the signals used to drive vector monitors. Claiming you've designed you graphics to take advantage of composite video cause you're using dithering effects is pure ignorance.

It doesn't, transparencies effects still work on RGB. Dithering patterns being visible != them not working.
>Yeah, you're wrong. You can go >muh PC-88 all you want but that doesn't change the fact that dithering looks better on low end signals.
You got some hot opinions there, but I don't see any fact. PC-88 games are the proof that dithering techniques work well in RGB, otherwise they wouldn't have used them as much as they did (that is way more than in any megadrive game, both for transparency and as filling patterns).
Liking composite isn't an issue, but parroting some blog saying that composite is the way game graphics were supposed to be viewed using emulator screenshots as comparison is pretty damn stupid.

£5 for a profeel monitor? Nice. That's the kind of price you would have expected for a kx14cp1 3~4 years ago here (it's not the case anymore though), but kx21 and 27 monitors have alway been listed for at least 40€.

My KX14-CP1 was actually the highest price I've paid for a CRT, £70.

Picked up a BVM-20F1E for £10 though so overall I'm still in the black.

I could never bring me to pay that much for a kx14cp1, not after losing so many opportunies to get it between 5 and 15€ (they were sold by people at the other side of the country). There was some cheap one sold for 20€ last november, but I contacted the seller a too late. But now the last one that have been listed was going for 300€, I hope the next one to appear wont have such a ridiculous price.
