Blah. Hyper Dimension and Super Butoden 2 still best DBZ fighters.

Also I just noticed that emulator screenshot is all sort of fucked on the background sky.

Super DBZ is the best but is not retro.

Fighterz, Super butouden 2, hyper dimension and super dragon ball z are all great in their own ways. All of them amazing fighting games even without the dragon ball license

the earlier DBZ fighting games had pretty shit rosters though.

fighter Z is probably the best mix between fanservice (outside of the inevitability 4 gokus & 3 vegetas) & legit fighting game.

I like Butoden 2's roster though, it's pretty weird but appealing. Not too many DBZ games have characters like Cell Jr. or Zangya.
HD is a bit more predictable but still good.
Anyway, roster doesn't mean shit. Ultimate Battle 22 had a pretty good roster, but the game itself was absolute dogshit.

I have to give UB22 credit for putting Super Buu in instead of Kid Buu.

sure the benefit of limiting the roster to what the current arc is opens the door to lesser known or otherwise obscure characters but can you really tell me with a straight face that there are people who wanted to play bojack?

hell, unless it's bardock, broly or cooler nobody seems to really care about the movies characters.

That's the thing, having lesser known/popular characters makes things more interesting, there may be some people out there who do care about Bojack or other movie characters. And ultimately, gameplay-wise, Bojack serves as another big heavy character, like Broly (who also debuted on SB2).
Speaking of Bojack, the story on SB2 is actually more interesting than on the movie. Instead of randomly appearing on a random planet and just fighting, they come to Earth and start making clones of the Z senshi, then, depending on how you perform in the game, or what decisions you take on the story mode, there's some other weird shit going on, like they building some weird towers that absorve humans' energy. Interaction between Bojack and Zangya, and with the other characters is also more interesting here than on the movie.

There was a turn based rpg for the super nintendo that was pretty fun. I can't remember the name of it for the life of me, and I cant read japanese, but it was still pretty good I think I just trialed and errored the moves until I learned what shit was.

Probably Super Saiya Densetsu, which was a remake of the first 2 Famicom RPGs.
It's been translated in english since the early 2000s iirc.

Nah.

It's Super DBZ first, then FighterZ.
