is this version of Super Mario worth paying? I might pick it up, how close is it to the original Super Mario?

It's identical in terms of level design, but the screen crunch makes it almost unplayable.
Also, I believe it allows you to continue from the level you died on, instead of going all the way back to World 1-1 or the first level of the world you died on, if you're not a pleb.
I beat it as a kid when it first came out, but I don't remember how I did it.

Yeah, it's great and very playable. The screen crunch is a thing, but it's not 'unplayable' by any stretch of the imagination and playing a platformer as tight as SMB on the Game Boy feels good man.

No it's not. A number of levels got minor redesigns to make jumps easier, or platforms positioned in ways that are more obvious to accommodate the smaller screen resolution. The included version of SMB2J had the most substantial level edits since the port didn't contain the programming code for all of SMB2J's mechanical additions and physics.

You should get the Deluxe version for the added stuff like You VS Boo and the challenge mode, not so much for the original Super Mario Bros.

No. The aspect ratio is fucked.

Very good version with cool extras... but it's a shame the screen's so small.
There's a few blind jumps, especially late-game.

still a pretty good attempt at porting a console scotformer to a handheld.

I played this on gba with the screen stretched for so long that to this day my timing is fucked on the nes.

I don't know if it's just me but the screen crunch is a lot more noticeable on PC than it is on my 3DS.
