I wanna see some japan only n64 games, what are the good ones? Or the ones where the JP version is the best?
I know about Sin and Punishment and Wonder Project J2

Super Robot Wars 64 is decent for what it is, but it pales in comparison to Alpha, which came out around the same time for the PS1.

SRW64 was able to connect to the Link Battler game for the GBC, and you could import units from that into 64. Unfortunately, that gimmick was the only way to get certain units, which were 100% impossible to get, otherwise.

Timed attack system was introduced, where you can press A to do a double attack. The second hit does half damage, and restores one additional MP.

Critical hits were introduced. Both the player and enemies can get them.

Defense and Agility level up twice as quickly. In addition to this, you hear a sound and see a flash of color when a stat levels up. The color tells you which stat increased, so you don't have to go into your menu to check.

Some bosses had their AI changed, especially later on in the game. The first boss, Solvaring, was toned down in the JP release. Bosses move back further when using certain attacks. Guilty and Mammon are no longer non-elemental. Beating a boss gives you HP and MP, not just HP.

Magic Barrier can last longer in the JP version (up to six turns, I think, compared to three in the US).

There's a marker you can use to keep track of a custom location on your map.

Enemies will drop items until you have three of the item in question. In the US release, if you already had an item the enemy could drop, they wouldn't drop anything.

The main character's name was changed from Brian to Jean-Jacques, for reasons unknown. Some other characters had their names changed, as well.

An actual ending sequence was put in the game.

I think some locations have different items than they did before, but I'm not familiar enough with the game to know which items were altered.

I would have said Sin & Punishment, since it impressed me in magazine screenshots, but you already know of that one. So I will say Virtual Pro Wrestling 2, since it has all the customization of Wrestlemania 2000, with the mechanics of No Mercy, plus additional styles like shoot fighting/MMA and chain grapples.

I think the JP version has Mario 64 and Waverace utilize the rumble pak, but I do not know what the US version offers that would be better.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2
The greatest wrestling game of all time which came out at the tail end of one of the greatest periods of all time in Japanese Wrestling.

Thankfully it came out when it did. Only a few months later, the All Japan Pro Wrestling promotion which is what the game is mostly based on was pretty much killed.

Nothing, since those versions have all of the extra features that the US versions had, plus rumble. And by "features", I mostly mean Mario 64 had some minor bug fixes and a few new voice lines.

I wasn't a fan of the show, but I really liked Ayanami Rei and Kirishima Mana in those days. Despite how hated Treasure games are on this board, I thought the N64 games were interesting enough from magazine articles in their day to purchase to play on friends' N64s.

>>4743054
I think someone mentioned that the US versions have glitches people like using. I am guessing for speedrunning purposes or are just amusing to see.

>>4744721
I don't have a lot on N64. In those days I primarily got games for the Saturn, as they were cheap and unwanted at that time with the Playstation taking a back seat as mine died an upside-down death. The N64 was even less of a priority as I played on friends' systems, but I still got titles from the bargain bin clearance for it. I do want to get the UltraHDMI mod as mentioned in the last pic, but they cost a lot.

>>4744769
I somewhat recently got a frontloader NES again, the clone console did its job in the interim. The SD2SNES is a Chinese bootleg version I had a co-worker ask her family to mail over. The bootleg SD2SNES is Rev.F which does not have as well equalized MSU-1 sound of the real thing.

They aren't really.. All the Treasure shitposting you see is most likely from 1 or 2 guys who always post in the same way.
It's a shame Bangai-O never got a western release. At least the Dreamcast version did years later.

The story is below average as far as SRW games go, I felt, but I guess it would be considered good for its time. I didn't like how much focus OZ and Wing in general got, and Dancouga was handled really poorly.

The difficulty is kind of all over the place, because it's using similar mechanics to most of the other pre-Alpha Gaiden games. Morale is pretty much the most important stat, and if a strong boss has high enough morale, they can one-shot even your sturdiest super robots.

Character-wise, I felt that Arklight was the best choice, followed by Manami, Selain, and Brad. Brad's pretty awful, because almost all of his weapons are 1-range, and his only ranged weapon has very low ammo, as I recall.

If you're a fan of the series, SRW64 isn't a bad entry. It has several series that are pretty rare in SRW, like Goshogun, G Gundam, Giant Robo, Layzner (one of my favorites), and Godmars. I don't feel that it's one of the better SRW games, though.

Sucks to not know moon. Though sometimes I feel the story isn't THAT good to make it worth it to learn japanese. At least that's what happened after playing the OGs and J for the first time.

>> No.4746041

>>4746014
Yeah, the quality of the story in your average SRW game is not very good. The most enjoyable part is still the crossover element (though I actually prefer the OG games to the crossover titles, oddly enough).

W and UX had pretty cool stories. MX was kinda interesting, too.

Character interactions are the best part, honestly. Bonus points for voiced scenes or VA jokes, like Misato from Evangelion (Sailor Moon's VA) flirting with Amuro from Gundam (who voiced Tuxedo Mask).
