How about this, Snes vs Genesis.

But please lets avoid shit flinging shall we?

I want some legitimate reasons why you like one over the other. Please lay off the hate.

Personally I like the Genesis. A lot of the games for it just have a look that appeals to me , I don't even know what it is exactly. It just felt like a "cooler" system to me. Also I generally like the music in Genesis games better. The weirdest thing is that I actually grew up with a SNES and didn't get a Genesis until much later.

Both have their strengths. I prefer SNES because I played it more in my childhood.

/thread.

Pretty much this. And none of the Sega franchises have ever really interested me, have yet to even play a Sega console.

I owned a Gensis, and then a snes a few years later.
I always thought the snes was better, didn't think this was even up for debate.

snes because better games. genesis just had sonic

Just look up a thread from the archive, there have been plenty.

>genesis just had sonic
you know nothing about retro gaming if you actually think that

You're invoking the most intense rivalry in video game history. It's gonna be hard to keep this civil.

Castlevania: Bloodlines
Contra: Hard Corp
Crusader of Centy
Landstalker
Lunar 1 and 2
Mega Man Wily Wars
Mega Turrican
Phantasy Star 2, 3, and 4
Pulseman
Ranger X
Rocket Knight Adventures
Shadowrun
Shining Force 1, 2, and CD
Snatcher
Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles
Thunder Force 2, 3, and 4
Vectorman 1 and 2
Warsong (Langrisser)
Zero Wing

I'm a SNES fan and will sing its praises, but I own a Genesis and Sega CD, and both Sega systems have good games on them.

And I think the "Sega does what Nintendon't" ads were clever. Blast Processing, not so much.

Sounds bizarre, but I just could NOT get to grips with the Genesis/MD controller. It just didn't feel right.

The SNES pad was, for me, the best controller ever made. Just fit my hands right. Still do, even though I'm in my 30s now.

And then there was the superior versions of the StreetFighter games, Killer Instinct, Super Mario All Stars, and, well, just better games.

That said, Sonic 2 is still my number one platformer of all time. I suffered with that pad for hundreds of hours playing that bloody game...

I don't have any problems with the 3 or 6 button Genesis controllers, but I agree with you that the SNES controller is better overall. I've taken a liking to the Hori Commander and I'd like to get a hold of the Fighting Commander version that adds face buttons for L and R.

>> No.476378

There is no point of reference to make an objective comparison. The point of reference itself is the snes, the genesis being just a lower version of it, so to speak.

Anyway, it has its unique features which are worth trying, but it can't hold by itself. It is a console to own only AFTER owning the snes.

>> No.476417

Sega had superior action games be it run and gun or hack and slash.
Snes had superior RPGs.

>The SNES pad was, for me, the best controller ever made.

Yeah, seriously. Shame Nintendo has fucked up every controller since then.

Then now would be a great place to start getting interested.
I mean, I was a Sega kid, yet the first thing I did as soon as I was able was to emulate some SNES games to see what I was missing out on.

Hey man, the GC controller was the best.
