Its fun but incredibly broken. Once you realize the AI cannot detect you if you are not on the same vertical plane as them it becomes ridiculously easy. You can literally get on the roofs & sprint to the end of each level without any challenge whatsoever. At least they fixed this in the sequels.

T2 is ok, but it's more grounded and "realistic", and not only because of the absence of music.
The first Tenchu, with its crazy lighting and environment design as well as the weird soundtrack give the game a otherworldly, expressionistic vibe some times (mostly accidental I'm sure)

They fixed this on the re-release of the first game, and the American version. If you play on hard you'll only go by unnoticed if you are really out of their field of view.
