Personally I think the game should have had the fleet stage as one of the final stages
The actual final stage is the hardest (especially on Hard), but going from flying around on a telekinetically controlled rock shooting up battleships and a giant flying fortress while also having a duel with a fighter squadron only to run around on a beach afterwards, take a break in a convenience store and take a stroll through the woods is just weird from a escalation standpoint

Granted, for the final boss you transform into an Evangelion and have to destroy a clone of Earth itself by shooting everything back at it in order to protect the real earth, but still

The train and beach stages are great though, they have this sort of house of the dead-esque feel to them, with hundreds of crawly spooky things coming out of all corners, the fleet stage is probably the best part of the game for me though, it's just amazing, and while it would have been a great climax for the final, I think it's also nice to have it in the middle of the game. And as you said, the final boss already has a bombastic climatic nature, so the game kind of balances itself and tries new things in every stage.

As hard and crazy as that stage is, I like the impression the final level gives that even rural areas had been overrun and there wasn't much hope left for the country with it's last line of defense gone, like you're the only thing holding them all back.

wrong

Maegawa himself said the Working Designs version was superior due to fixing some technical flaws in the JP version and upping the challenge factor.

According to Vic, Maegawa complimented WD on the changes. So if you don't trust the source, you'll have to email MM directly.

What changes did Nintendo do to Glass Soldier/S&P other than the name? I can't even remember if the name change was because of Nintendo or not.

Interesting. Sony has the fame of being liberal and letting devs do whatever they wanted, I guess it wasn't quite like that in reality.

Is Guardian Heroes not really worth it without two players? I got through the campaign as Han, but nothing really clicked; I was either letting the undead guy do most of the work and barely surviving, or perpetually stuck in hitstun from a mob of enemies dogpiling me after I've fallen down.

The only thing that seemed to work was jumping back and forth between planes to surround enemies or bait them into a heavy hit, but that stopped being effective by the endgame/final boss fucking Golden Silver, of all things

It just feels like I'm supposed to be developing strategies or simply enjoying the carnage with another player, which would sadly mean I won't get much fun out of this one. Enough people I trust say this is one of the good ones, though, so I'm more than fine accepting something wrong on my end.

The Sin and Punishments, Bangai-Os, Alien Soldier, Ikaruga, and Dynamite Headdy range from good to great, too.

Some of their classics are overrated, though.

The game is easier if you tell the skeleton to hang back in earlier levels and only start using him in bosses or when your shit is getting pushed in. He doesn't level up, but he does steal your potential xp.

Huh, all that health and not having to worry about magic made me think he was the beginner character. I'll give some others a shot; I liked what I've played of Serena and the kung-fu lightning guy.

>>4726467
It's far from my favorite genre, but I was more struck by how the zombie guy seems almost too good for to do anything. Either I never got the chance to start juggling/comboing/just plain hitting anybody because he killed them already, or I got stun-locked for half my health before I could get off the ground. It made me think that another actual person was intended to be playing with me.

I'm convinced Gunstar is Treasure's worst retro game, yes, even worse than mcdonalds or light crusader or whatever. The game sets you up with some really good gameplay, and about 3 fun stages, then goes to absolute shit from there on. Such a letdown.

I agree, to an extent. GH's stages throw enemies at you haphazardly, where waving your weapon combo (not just the homing one) in their general direction of the mob will get you through relatively unscathed. They feel a bit more thought out in GSH.

The bosses are mostly great, though. That plus no awful Thunder Force level puts it above the Gameboy one for me.

Alien Soldier and Hard Corps are a lot better than either, yea.

"feels like a chore" is a good way to describe that one wario world game they did.
