Are they different systems, or is the GameBoy Color just a revision along the lines of the NES 101 or Sega CD?

You're asking a technical question that I probably don't understand, but the GBC has fancy stuff like color palettes, IR connection and big batteries. They seem pretty different to me

>> No.4722996

both
dx games are the same system, gameboy color games are separate

How do you not know this?
Its like asking if the Genesis is the same as a Master System

Gameboy Color is better hardware thats backwards compatible with GB games.
Some carts work with both, and thats because there's actually two roms inside the cart and the cart detects which device its in and changes accordingly.
Some GBC games can even tell if they are in a GBA and have additonal features ontop. (I think the Orcale Zelda games do this)
Putting a gameboy color only game in a GB will usually result in a screen, telling you to put it into a Gameboy Color. Often with custom graphics related to the game. (The John Madden one is creepy)

This. What an odd question.

Gameboy is to GBC as TurboGrafx is to SuperGrafx.

You know about crooked cartridge for n64? I wanted to attempt something like that with a gbc game. So I used some yugioh gbc game I didn't care about and attempted tilted the cartridge up while doing different things in-game to test the results. The game would always crash but one time I managed to make the GB error screen appear. It freaked me out since it was in black and white with a picture of the anime characters looking scared.

Not really. The GBC uses a z80 processor like the gb for gbc games.
The genesis is a different beast. While it has a z80 for backwards compatibility and audio processing, the genesis games itself run on a whole different cpu, a 68000.

> better hardware
the only thing better about it was its expanded colour palette and an enhanced z80 cpu made by sharp. the audio was still shit as ever. being only able to support a maximum of 56 colors at once was considered laughable at the time. surprised it sold as well as it did, but that goes to show how people don't give a fuck about specs and care about games. i would go as far as to say it was a slight improvement over the original gb. i bought a gbc when it was released and like it but i didn't find it to be big improvement.

So the only things better about it were that some things were better. Good talk.

You literally mentioned the ways it was better then whined about how you didn't think there were enough colors (no one else at the time complained about this) and how they didn't sink more into the sound chip.

If you don't make a decent argument in the first place, don't expect a less lazy reply.

After the success of the gameboy you were surprised people didn't need high spec handhelds ? Seriously?

The Sega CD is an add-on not a revision.

Is the 3ds and the new 3ds the same system?

>> No.4725369

The Sega CD isn't a revision at all. It's an add-on. It extends the capabilities of the base console.

And to answer the question, no. They are more like the Wii / GameCube, where the Wii is based on the GameCube and highly backwards compatible, while also having it's own specific games.
