Not obsessed, but I love them, especially 1 and 2.

>> No.4717958

They're a solid group of games, I liked 1 the most.

There's always a thread up. Why is this a serious question?

This. 2 is fantastic and I did play through it probably three whole times back in the day.
I'm also looking forward to the Switch port of Tropical Freeze next month.

Well, you ain’t wrong :)

Loved the first one. Probably one of the best platformers of all time.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't think the 2nd one was better than the first, it was still good, but it went too off the rails and requiring all the coins was some serious bullshit.

The third one is just not good.

I really like 3 a lot. It has a trading sequence that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a platformer before. It really felt liked the biggest adventure ever.

Also, I was that one dumb kid who was still playing with a SNES in ‘97 playing Dreamland 3 and DKC 3

I also really like the games. Although I don't like how they fucked up the audio in 3, sounds muffled. And some of the enemy/boss designs were bad compared to the previous games.

They have charm though for sure. I just wish the new games had some of that...they play good but they're too bright and happy. Where is the darkness and dinginess and eerie music?

1 is my favorite, fast gameplay and great presentation

I feel that Retro lacks Rare's charm, they make amazing levels to play sure, but they really lack the atmosphere and personality that Rare gave to the Kongs. Those new idle animations and Funky Kong on the Tropical Freeze port for Switch are neat tho.

>> No.4718951

1 and 2 are definitely classics , i replay them regularly and never been bored with them

soundtrack is also god tier but you already know that

I consider them all to be 10/10 games on their own. The atmosphere of each one is so unique and amazing and I love it.

1 feels so interesting going through the jungle and finding tires to bounce on and animals you can ride on. The forest area and the snow levels are my all time favourites. The graphics definitely played a big part in me loving this game.

2 blew my mind when I realized the first map was the original ship you fought K.rool on and that it crashed into this island. It took me a long time to figure that out. This game had really tight gameplay and great music. I was obsessed with trying to find every bonus and DK coin so I could beat the lost world. It took me a long time to finally beat it 102%.

3 I have great memories of playing this with a friend and trying for 103%. Again it feels like an entire new game and my only big problem was that Rambi was replaced. The overworld map was mind blowing, especially when you had the choice to go to the industrial area or the waterfall area. This was the first game in the trilogy that I completed fully and me and my friend thought it was so freaking awesome when we finally got the helicopter. We used to try and get a glimpse of that area while riding on the jet ski and we were so curious about what was up there.

I don't really know what it is but I love everything about this series. Especially the pre-rendered art from the first one.

I mean, smw has a million romhacks to keep you engaged almost indefinitely. But i've already played all the DK games enough times for it to feel repetitive.

When I was a kid I didn't even notice DK island on the world map so I thought Crocodile Isle was actually some bizarre "off camera the Kremlings WON and they turne DK island into THIS".

The bonus coins are only required if you want the best ending. The DK coins aren't required at all.

I love these games so much that I cant get into the new ones because they dont control exactly the same
