I haven't been able to forget fallout 1. i think about it almost every day, and it's been 2 weeks since i beat it. it was incredible. i can't wait to play fallout 2.

I never felt like I had any decent reason for caring about anyone in the first two fallout games

they're kind of mostly assholes and it doesn't particularly matter if the cowards in the vault die or whatever

>> No.4715815

>>4715789
i can understand that. there isn't really anyone to care about but yourself. the object of the game, your mission, your entire purpose, is to get the water chip, simply because the vault is your family and they are all counting on you. you go through a long, complex journey on a time crunch, facing danger after danger and dead end after dead end.
Then, you find it and return. Now you're told about the threat of the super mutants, and you have to destroy an entire military bases's worth, as well as their creator, the godlike master.
Once again, you return home expecting a heroes welcome. instead, you are cast out. you worked so hard to save your vault, and now you aren't even welcome there. you have nowhere to go, except back out into the wasteland, as that FUCKING MUSIC PLAYS.
Look at the long wanderer there. his head is hung low. he's dirty and injured. along the journey you probably saw the death of several companions and your dog. and it was all for nothing in the end.

I get what you mean about not caring about the vault dwellers, after all you're just told you should care about them and your mission is to save them, but it think that's intended, since you can side with the master and destroy vault 13 or hurt the vault in other ways through the story. I don't know, this game was just a real experience for me. i wanted to gush about it a bit.

Slowness is one the principal reasons why combat can suck for games and what's this bullshit? A game doesn't need to be some wannabe strategy shit to have deep combat,Having slow ass battles for the sake of being a little more complex is a terrible idea and make players don't want to fight,A good combat system makes player itch for fighting always and a turn based system can be complex just look at thr Pokemon one so fucking complex it has a competitive scene,All you need to make a turn based system complex is give enemies overpowered or at least always a challenge and give the player various tools to fight that,Yes many modern tbrpgs fail at this trough but it's still much better than slow pseudo action battles that make you want to run away once they start

There's a lot to criticize in classic FO combat but aimed shots being useless is a bizarre claim. Aiming for the eyes raises your critical hit chance by 60% and aiming for the head 40%, and crits are always good.

Now if you had said that the companions tend to be retarded, combat against multiple enemies is a slog or that crits completely bypassing armor makes the combat extremely RNG-heavy especially in the endgame, I would have agreed.

Meh. Fallout is not the place you want to be for a fair and balanced combat experience anyway. You gotta take em where you can get em. You can avoid most enemies even by mashing a, not attacking them, walking away, ending combat before their turn, then mashing a again before they aggro.

That's what I thought. /v/ contrarians are so quick to shit on a game and those that enjoy it, yet they never come up with any alternative, because they don't really play video games. If it was really "Babby's first" anything, then naming 20 games that are better should be easy.

Don't forget "running as fast as you can when you get trapped in a random encounter while hoping an NPC won't get a lucky shot" and "watch as your APA Mark II-wearing character with his high HP maxed gets blown to gibs because of a critical from a turret or a punk with a Gauss Pistol".
