How come this is the most remembered game, even more than the PS2 or later ones?

>> No.4703469

It is?

>> No.4703470

>>4703467
I didn't know it was. The game is dumb and like most early YGO games plays little like the actual card game. The music in Forbidden Memories is great though.

It's the most speed run YuGiOh game and the one with the most memes about the twin headed thunder penis

Probably that it was the last big PS1 game based on a huge property

thats why the games are good if i wanted to play the card game I would play the fucking card game or one of the simulators available for it. If I want to play a game with yugioh characters in the yugioh universe ill play one of the console games.

>> No.4703523

>>4703467
I don't know any of the other games, actually, but I remember this one for the music.

Despite the ridiculous difficulty, the game was really good. I still think it's damn impressive the did 3D models for every single card in-game. Free duel mode is better than the campaign itself, for me at least. I haven't play Duelist of Roses yet so I can't comment on it, but of all retro Yu-Gi-Oh games, forbidden memories is my favorite. As a lot of people already said it but, the OST was great.

Damn OP, now I want to play it again. Maybe I'll search a hack that makes the game easier and beat this game once for all.

>>4704132
>Thunder Dragon memes
Yeah, this combination is great but but my favorite always will be female card + rock card.

Because the game is programmed to cheat against you so you literally have to outsmart your opponents.

It has so many models because the game is essentially a tech demo

Summon big monster or play a card that either destroy or stop your opponent's monsters from attacking.
That's how deep Forbidden Memories is, there's nothing more to the game.

>> No.4706782

>>4706242
It was mostly meant to show off how well the PS1 can do 3D models. That's why the game feels kind of bare otherwise.

>> No.4706784

Weren't the ps2 games not even about playing cards though? I remember one where you moved the pieces like a tabletop game.

>> No.4706807

>>4706286
You can actually outsmart opponents by setting cards and making them think they're much stronger than they actually are, which makes them not attack. This doesn't work on the final opponents and Pegasus because he has the Milenium Eye and can see your cards.

>>4703473
Speedrunning of the game has mostly died out, but this game has a cult following and there's huge amount of work done on it. Fun fact, enemies don't even have decks, they just draw from a huge pool of cards where each card has a certain probability of being drawn, which is how they cheat.

This was a good game, I must admit.

Came out right when the PS1 was on its way out and the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime had just started airing on Kids WB!, so it naturally had a lot of appeal as sort of a "grand finale" for PS1 licensed games.

Good speedrunmaterial because of rng carddrops. You can make progress by farming specific enemies.
And a nice Aegyptianflair in the game, i dont know if you like yu gi oh. But the very first season (0), the mangaseries, had a more serious tone. Which was captured quiet well in this game.
Its just a cardgame but its fun. Finding out fusions is also fun and feels rewarding.

>> No.4708014

the yugioh anime was based on the duel monsters card game from the manga, the manga itself was centered more around games, gambling and gaming. Duel monsters is actually just like a couple chapters in the manga.

>>4707529
It came out when Konami had just got the rights to the card game and were still working out the mechanics so this was in development at the same time as the tcg

>> No.4708036

Stop talking shit you don't know. More than half of the manga is dedicated to Duel Monsters

>> No.4708046

>>4708036
you stop talking shit in the first part of the story arc duel monsters only comes up 3 times and there are a lot more games involved like capsule monsters and that roleplaying game bakura was into ya fucking retard. Once the duelist kingdom arc starts it gets more common but it wasnt the main focus of the series in like the first 15 volumes ya faggot retard

>> No.4708234

>>4708046
Fucking retard.
You said duel monsters were just a couple of chapters, when there's in fact more than 200 chapters revolving around duel monsters.
Now you're backpedaling saying at the beggining of YGO duel monsters were less common. Not the point.

>> No.4708268

>> No.4708372

no my point was the main focus was not duel monsters and that is still true, I'm not back peddling at all. The later story arcs are also stories that involve the duel monsters game like the god cards but its not all playing the card game itself like the TV show is. The main focus of the manga is not the card game
