I love this game, is oddly relaxing to play

It's a great game. The recent backlash it got (and "collectathons" in general) was a bit unfair, especially because you don't need to collect everything in DK64 to beat it.
The fact it includes a fully playable DK arcade port is also a huge plus for me, nowadays it's the reason I still use that cart. I have a 101% file though, and I'm tempted to start another one, it's been many years.
Also, it took a long time for Lanky to become a meme. He was meme material since day 1.

God tier characterization and music.
Abysmal length and speed.

Most of the hipsters who shit on DK64 have probably never played it and are just parroting e celebs

I like the DK64 soundtrack way more than the banjo soundtracks. Probably Grant Kirkhope's best work

i have a copy of it. yellow cart. got in the 90s. it's alright, nothing great. i was very disappointed it was nowhere near as fun as the donkey kong series on the snes. the n64 graphics weren't great then and have aged badly. those colours.. my eyes burn. music is alright.

I didn't know where else to ask this and I didn't want to make a new thread, but I figure it's related enough so I'll go ahead and ask.

Anyone have experience with third party expansion paks?

the one from retrobit is fine, I've used it for about 6 months with no issue. I don't think there's any issue with even the cheapest chinese ram you can find to be honest.

If you love Banjo there's no reason you wouldn't have a good time with this game. It's doomed to be shit on for the rest of time

I dunno man, I loved Banjo, easily in my top 10 of all time.

DK64 feels similar and all, but just the mere fact that you can't pick up any collectible with any character really hurt this game.

I understand golden bananas, since character specific abilities are used to get them, but there was no real reason a trail of lanky specific bananas should lead me to a room with Diddy specific coins, a Tiny specific balloon, and a puzzle that only Donkey could solvle.

The game would be 10/10 if you could just pick up all the minor collectibles as anyone, I'm pretty sure there's no collectibles that Mumbo can't pick up, or Solo Banjo/Solo Kazooie in Banjo Tooie as long as they can reach it.

Colored Bananas aren't that much of an issue when you focus solely on one Kong to get his items, yeah there's some parts that requires switching to open doors that leads to another zone, but after doing it, you're pretty much free of playing with whatever Kong you want.
