Being dead is definitely worse than being alive. When you're dead you can't do all the cool stuff you can do when you're alive. You and I, we can do all kinds of cool stuff cuz we're living, we're not dead, we're alive. If we were dead we wouldn't be able to do all the cool stuff we can do, becuz we're alive. Dead people can't do cool stuff. Only people that are alive can do cool stuff, cuz they're living, and you have to be living to be able to do cool stuff. You have to be alive. Yeah, 'cept when you're alive sometimes bad stuff happens too. Like sometimes you can get into a car wreck, or you can have a headache or twist your ankle or even stub your big toe... So being alive is kinda hard too, but I think it's definitely better than being dead...

There are some good tunes, but I alway found DoA 2's ost inferior to the DoA 1's. Imo DoA 2 shine more thanks to the graphics and gameplay than music. That doesn't stop it from being one of the games I play the most on my dreamcast.

For a game made in 1996 that's downright stunning. To their credits the console ports are damn fine looking too, but holy crap does the arcade version blow me away. It's defiantly near the top of my list of games to own if I ever get to build that dream arcade.

I played the hell out of 2 on the PS2...it was the reason I got a PS2 and my first game for it, I also got 1 on PSX around the same time, then got an Xbox to play 3, then got all the games that came out on that and got a 360 for 4 and then waited forever for 5.

Last Round is the best, but 1 has some interesting things about it since the series hadn't figured out how it wanted to play yet.

Ive been comparing the PS1 and Saturn versions of 1 somewhat lately and despite the PS1's extra content overall I think the Saturn version is overall better. The models on PS1 are bigger but less detailed, the stages aren't as nice and the music is WAY worse.

I actually liked it a lot more than Virtua Fighter. The characters were more interesting, and it didn't have a stupid guard button and instead holding away to guard, which felt more intuitive. Instead it has a hold/free button allowing for parries which look great in the context of a fight.

2 on the dreamcast is one of my favorite games of all time (love the xbox version too.) The first game is good too, but a little barebones. 3 was great fun, 4 felt like it added nothing and seemed very redundant. 5 I actively dislike, it has a weird uncanny valley look that is only exacerbated by the completely ludicrous sexy poses.

>> No.4699995

The DOA games are fun. I usually enjoy fighting games but I'm absolutely terrible at them. I can't possibly place a button combination to the key of 10 presses to bitch slap somebody for 1 HP of damage in 0.0000000001 seconds. Dead or Alive 2 strikes a balance between simple and sensual fun and "HOW THE FUCK WAS I SUPPOSED TO COUNTER THAT."

What I find interesting too is that the two best ports, JP Dreamcast and Ultimate Xbox, are both absolutely worth getting and playing, even if one of them is the obviously definitive one. If I want a complete game, I play Ultimate but if I want to play the arcade version I play the Dreamcast version. I don't feel the need to stick with one version. It is a testament to the game's large amount of fun.

DOA5 is fun but its artstyle is just plain odd. Honoka looks great in that artstyle, Kasumi sometimes looks good and sometimes looks a bit too realistic, and Tina, while I was never a fan of her, just looks like a hag. I think the reason why they did a massive overhaul to the artstyle was because DOA3 through X2 had their character models look a wee bit too similar to each other. There is an infographic on it somewhere.

i really love the early doa games. 1 having several versions with major differences is really interesting:
-m2 arcade beta. zack is white guy called kelly and kasumi has a different design.
-m2 arcade final. best models in doa 1
-saturn. adds ayane and bass. pretty much an arcade port.
-psx remake. new models, remixed songs (some changed entirety) and altered stages. lots of outfits.
-doa ++ arcade. built on the psx remake. remixed songs and while it has less outfits, some are new.

gameplay slowly gets better every release. also zack still has references to kelly internally even in doa 2.
doa 2 versions add more content, even same games between regions.
something of note, evil kasumi has some lines in the arcade version data she never says in-game. her conversation with kasumi was 2 lines longer.
also she has 5 win phrases. only 1 is used.
