I mean that the mod currently lacks tutorials and hints about all the mechanics i'm implementing and it also meant to not be played 100% as Quake 3 given the fact that it is still Doom, the dude there just went nuts and full Quake 3 and ignoring all the extra stuff the mod has because he actually not aware of them.

So yeah, people can review released stuff but the way he did for me was just a quick play of what he sees in the first layer of the mod, in case, the "Quake 3 on Doom" because as you see he wanted very hard to try bunny hop at it, a thing that i developed the mod entirely not counting on it because i know Doom engine is not capable of doing that without ZScript and all monsters and projectile speeds are patterned for the new speed the player characters have, but he was being being kinda ignorant in not wanting to learn those because you can figure out certain things pretty quickly about it like the abilities, which wasn't the case, he just tried hard play it the wrong way and as retribution, the mod will not play as you expect, suddently making you dislike it instead of seeing my true intentions with it.

TL;DR wait for me to clarify what i have made inside the mod through some sort of game instructor before reviewing it.

I didn't review the wad at all. It's not a playthrough video, it's not a review, it's 4 minutes of "oh shit, this looks nuts".

I don't think people are going to think badly of the mod based on this interview precisely because it shows so little and that's obvious. I straight up suicided by running into enemies, that's clearly not a review. Having 0 commentary is also another big indication that's it not a review...

Yes, currently the mod will stop at Version 2.9.5 as public release for now, the next release will happen only when i'm done in making all abilities in all characters, add the allies that makes part of the lore, makes the introduction of the real campaign and story and make the tutorial map at least, it will be kinda a long ride until i complete all those, probably that release will only happen in July or even later.

Transparency only works if you set the alpha value on the actor. You can't have an alpha value in the texture's skin, and as far as I know this will probably not work correctly without hacking the renderer because individual polys from the models are never sorted in with the polys from the map.

You can hack in shading and coloring per-vertex if you write your own shader. But I'm lazy so I just use an AO map which works out of the box.

Animated textures work pretty good.

Interpolated movement does work although I'm not using any animated models, yet.

Delete your zandro config (zandronum-YOURNAME.ini)to get a fresh one generated. You could also just move it to a different folder then run zandro to generate a new config then copy all the keybinds from that into your original config and move it back to the root zandro folder. It's just my own mentality I guess. I feel I should be trying these wads out purely vanilla first. This level (and episode) starts out fucking HARD, you're really on the spot, once you wake the cacos and start shooting, imps and pinkies teleport into the front yard, so you can't exactly fall back there, and in back of the front hallway there's a mancubus who'll limit your capacity for movement, in an ever shrinking envelope of death.

So the logical thing is to blaze through, which puts you either in a stable (?) with pinkies crowding you and guns pointing down at you from above, or you run out into a backyard, where there's more pinkies, more shotguns pointing at you, a whole row of imps, and even more cacos.
To top it of, there's not much weapons or ammo early in the map, nor is there very much room at all for falling back or to just move and dodge.

The margins are very slim, and this is on easy. I'm not saying it's really bad or anything, but it doesn't give you much room for tactical creativity. There's nowhere to run, there's nowhere to take cover, there's nowhere to dodge, and there's little to fight with, it's like most of the map is designed with the thought of basically one exact strategy and path, because you just run from one frying pan to another frying pan, then another frying pan, if you didn't die in the last one.

So I'm playing through Aetherius and it's giving me a whole lot of really fucking conflicting feelings.

At the very least the default of having the Slot 6 weapon get its own ammo pool makes them a lot more useful, but yeah it does work both ways. Personally not much of a fan of Plutoniaguy's Quantum Accelerator, don't know if there's a trick to it but it's not great against bosses, though it still remains useful against large mobs.

If anything I think JPCPguy is arguably the most loaded, Nailgun ammo being much tighter is a good trade-off but the kit is otherwise incredibly flexible. BTSXguy is probably the trickiest with highest payoff and TNTguy feels like the weakest without the high burst damage everyone else gets. The Slot 7 just firing BFG rays is neat though.

there's the tried-and-true "on for X seconds, on cooldown for Y seconds", which always works well for spurring action and is much more predictable than the current system

or you could have it give you massive damage reduction and the current buffs, but burn through 5 health a second until you reach 25 health (at 40 and under, it warns you it's about to end), at which point it turns off. basically, you turn your health into a powerup. that way, you still want to make the most out of it before it runs out, and you can extend it by pushing forward and finding more health, but you have to be ready for when it inevitably takes you down to 25 health and leaves you there, naked and afraid.

I dunno how well that'd actually play out in-game, but it sounds a lot more interesting than "oh this runs out if you get shot a couple times, so I guess you better play as conservatively as possible to keep the boost!"

y'know what, I got a better way to express how that second idea works: when you hit the nanocore, you're basically starting a race against the clock, where getting hit takes time off the clock and getting health puts time on the clock.
you can't just sit in one place. you can't take it slow. the clock's ticking, your health is draining, and you don't want these fancy juiced-up guns to lose their juice, do you? so you need more health, and where's more health? further in the map. so you gotta get there, fast.
but you can't just rush in blindly. you rush in blindly, you take a lot of hits, and that clock starts ticking fast. too fast. so you gotta be smart about it, because if that clock hits 0, you're sitting in the middle of a horde with 25 health, and your arsenal suddenly isn't so impressive anymore.
you gotta deal with things fast. fast, but smart. and you gotta keep moving, keep following the health. keep pushing forward, and keep killing everything in your way.

and that's the goal. by turning the nanocore into what's basically time attack, you completely flip the playstyle it encourages.
and while it won't work too well with low-health maps... the current nanocore doesn't work well with low-health maps as is, and those maps are grueling anyway. so whatever. working out better 95% of the time is worth being shit in a different way the other 5% of the time.

The buffer already does this, it's not static.

It's meant to be a gamble you make based on the situation, not as a test of dodging ability. The buffer is a quarter of your current health. At 20%, taking 5 damage will deactivate it, at 200%, you'll have a whopping 50 damage you can take before it turns off.

It's meant to be about taking advantage of health surplus to go on a rampage for a while, without having to worry about a timelimit forcing you to dive into an ocean of monsters to get the most out of it.

I'm thinking I could give it two modes, Defensive and Aggressive, choosable in the menu.
Defensive is the current "bet your health and try to avoid taking too much damage" mode, and Aggressive could be based on a timer maybe? Gets extended with monster kills or something. I'll have to thonk on this, thanks!

For the most part I think it's just the sustainability of the powered-up state that's a bit tight on regular maps as well as overpowering the player a bit much on smaller maps like anon said before. Not sure about having two modes, the item shouldn't be more complicated than it needs to be, mainly to keep in the theme of the mod keeping it pretty simple across the board with few outliers like the Halderman Device and the Katana. But of course it shouldn't be too lenient, the player has to work for the upkeep.

Yes, there is a set amount in the game. You're given gold after completing objectives, but sometimes there's just gold hidden around the hubs, like a bunch of single gold pieces inside fountains. Also, secrets. But if you just lost a ton of gold, you're not getting that back.

Fucking around with the autoaim can be an intentional aspect of the difficulty, like getting sniped by enemies that are farther than your autoaim can reach or needing to orient yourself around enemies that are in front of you to target enemies above them (final map of Coffee Break starts out exactly like that, shitty webm related) But the thing that's tough is that unless they explicitly say it in the TXT file, you don't know if a modern map was tested with freelook, so you don't know if you're handicapping yourself by not using it.
