Just the controller will work, it has a baked in hid driver that works with pretty much everything on the planet earth

One thing that sucks though is I don't think it supports rumble, so if you go ds4 and you care about that you are kinda screwed

I love that he does that again in Star Allies.

What I use personally is this controller from 8bitdo, I hesitated to recommend because I have heard mixed things about the quality control of some units, but mine works just fine

They also make a phone clip for it and I believe it does support rumble on Android.

The ds4 controller is pretty much guaranteed to work without issue, so that's why I recommend it first.

Depends on what do you want from it. Something small and functional? 8bitdo Zero. You have a DS4 or the latest Xbone Bluetooth controller lying around? Use those whit a clip preferably. A telescopic controller might also work, there is a pretty silly named one called Flydigi Wee which basically turns your phone into a PS Vita looks wise and there is Ipega 9023 which handles even the biggest tablets. I can totally recommend Zero, DS4 or SFC30 from 8bitdo since I have them, can't comment on the telescopic ones but I heard Ipega one has a good d-pad but bad analogs while Wee one has good analogs but bad d-pad. I don't recommend DS3 for Android, input lag is pretty bad over Bluetooth and I can't comment on using it through OTG since I never did that.
