I need controller suggestions. Playing N64 games with modern gamepads with only four face buttons isn't exactly the same experience. Using a thumbstick for C-buttons is trash. All the N64 controllers available on Ebay are loose unless it's one of those questionable limited edition $200 ones in a blister pack. I currently have a Interact Superpad 64 with an adapter, but it feels horrible.

We just had dozens of Brawler 64 threads one month ago.

I don't visit /vr/ often. Are they any good?

Yes. It's a good budget alternative to the Hori Mini, they have a kickstarter up to preorder one of the transparent versions, which is the only way to get one at the moment.

If you don't want to wait and have ~$80-$100 to burn on a single controller, you could also grab a Hori Mini. Personally I wouldn't recommend that unless you really want one now though, as the Brawler 64 is arguably just as good for only $30.

And here's the Brawler 64. The current version does have a problem with the L button and the joystick that wasn't caught in the prototyping phase, but the reason it wasn't caught is the same reason it doesn't really matter, no games use both the L button and require you to hold up on the control stick. This issue is apparently already fixed in the transparent ones on kickstarter right now.

Does the analog stick match that of the original N64 controller?

>> No.4684323

>>4684317
Why would you want the analog stick to be the same? The N64's analog stick was garbage.

I mean the sensitivity, not the durability.

Hori is basically perfect. Don't know about Brawler 64, but I haven't seen anyone complaining about it, and I haven't had any trouble switching from a Hori, so if there is any difference it's probably negligible.

What is that d pad placement?

>> No.4684357

>>4684352
It's meant so that you can use it with either hand while also operating the buttons or the stick if necessary. Keep in mind this controller was designed in 2000, before everyone realized we'd still be holding controllers that look exactly like the dualshock for the next two decades.

Saitek P990

Enough face buttons, stick, and triggers for every retro console.

its good

You could buy an N64 shaped USB controller or a real N64 controller and transcoder.

I hope those 5 games you're talking about are Ogre Battle, Wonder Project J2, Bomberman Hero, Goemon's Great Adventure and Shiren 2.
And those games all have some issues when emulating.

It's pretty good. Not quite original N64 controller good, but good enough that it won't fuck you up at all while playing.

D-pads on alternate N64 controllers are mostly irrelevant, though. If you need to use the D-pad, just use a regular N64 controller. Its D-pad is literally perfect.

No problem. I've actually been using a standard N64 controller to emulate Saturn games. It has all the required buttons, so it works perfectly.

Not really. I tidied it up a few weeks after I took that pic but since they were put in there one by one or layer by layer nothing was really tangled.
