Is Discworld the worst designed, illogical, obtuse and frustrating P&C adventure of all time?

>> No.4676496

>the worst
not sure but I agree it's lame

yet I liked it for some reason (no, I'm not a fanboy of Pratchett's stuff - I read some of his books after I played the game)

Eric Idle did a great job as Rincewind, but this game is the most obtuse bullshit I've ever played. You get an inventory of 30 odd items at one time. A pocket to store a couple items and a sentient trunk. Not to mention way too much pixel hunting. Dialogue was funny though.

Nah, Limbo of the Lost exists.

Everybody who cares has probably seen these already.

The bloody fuck, I have been playing this the last two days.

It's a fun romp, given the character interactions, but by Offler, the lateral-thinking exercises can really keep you guessing.

My brother got this when it came out. He was a big pratchett fan then, but I was too young. I am now a big fan.

The game is really obtuse, but the worst thing was that it had a game breaking bug. One cutscene would just loop forever. Pre-internet. It was years before we got a patch.

I would drop both Discworld I + II for that reason like hot garbage and just get Discworld Noir.

Best music, best welsh-american P.I., best puzzle/dialogue design and best eversion of Ankh-Morpork.

I don't like or play adventure games, but as a discworld fan obtuse and nonsensical sounds appropriate.

I would agree that you should just play Discworld Noir as the puzzles are a bit more logical and the dialogue is actually funny. Too bad the game is pretty short, especially if you’re one of those types that likes to use a guide. Too bad it’s a bitch to get running on new computers. Even my XP machine had trouble with it. As for the crashing on the main screen bug, all you have to do is hit F1 to bring up the old menu instead of loading from the main screen option.

Pic related is worse. You have to do all sorts of pixel hunt shit, it's incredibly easy to render the game unwinnable, and you're working under a constant time limit.

Probably the art and the music.
It created this cartoony fantasy city atmosphere that 2 and Noir never managed to match.

I also prefer Noir way more than, but that game has its own problems. Few cases of pixel hunting just stand out more for it, seemingly arbitrary progression where doing something unrelated in location A will unlock progress in location B, and finally the clue word game you need to deal with and is, at its worst, horrible case of developer logic where you have to follow specific logic to get what you want. Scent puzzles later on are just annoying, though.

Still, Discworld Noir is the closest we'll ever get to Garrett PI: the Game so that's that.

While not a point and click adventure, Ultima 9 is much more badly designed, illogical, and obtuse.
