Whats wrong with the PS2 version?
For portables the 3DS port is quite good, avoid the DS one like the plague.

They all have pros and cos

N64 is the first but has choppy and has shit music.

PS1 is playable and has the highest quality of CD music but it cut a shitload of content, has a nice Rayman 2D prototype tho.

PC is the most balanced, rock solid 60 fps. it can look pretty fucking great on high resolutions, doesn't cut any content but it doesn't have any kind of edge over other versions besides being 100% faithful to the original.

PS2 is a basically an enhanced remake, but it wasn't done by Ancel so it's in a weird spot. It can be choppy at times but if you play on emu that's a non-issue.
It replaces the Hall of Doors with a hub that's not really my cup of tea.
It also has a new lighting engine that kinda fucks the dark atmosphere of the original.
It's a nice version to play if you feel like adding some flavor to your playthrough.

DC is regarded as the best version. It's basically the original game, solid framerate, adds new but subtle effects here and there, has some extra content and that's it. It's Ancel's favourite version.
It does commit the crime of replacing the magical Hall of Doors with an island thing that's kinda shit tho.

Other versions are not interesting to me. As always, it all comes down to personal preference.

Revolution is a "revamped" version of 2, it isn't the same game as 2 because the pace and some mechanics are different (like instead of getting the health upgrade after breaking 10 cages, you have to go to the hub world, talk to ly and play a challenge to obtain the upgrade or the lums working as currency for upgrades in Rayman's moveset), i would only recommend it if you think 2 is too easy and already beat it.
And 3DS is glitchy as hell, stay away from it too.

>100% faithful to the original.
Which is pretty much what we're aiming for.

Which versions of R2 have actual speech instead of the gibberish? I know the PS1 one does, but I've only played the DC version besides

PS2 version has VA but you can turn it off by selecting "Raymanian" language in the start screen

Rayman Trilogy Collection for modern consoles when?

The N64 and PC versions were developed simultaneously. They could both technically be called the "original" version. Hell, the N64 version only came out like 5 days earlier.

N64, PC or DC.

Pick whatever you want but I would go with PC just for nostalgia reasons.

If you different levels and hub worlds, try Revolution on PS2. I like the older version more, but it is a nice different version
