Who should I watch if I want the same insightfulness about retro Vidya but without the Mr. poopy butthole tier 'humor'?

>> No.4675725

Nobody. E-celebs are cancer and literally all of them have terrible opinions. Play games for fun, form your own conclusions and don't let this hobby consume so much of your life that you need to watch other people talk about it on YouTube.

e-celeb discussion generally isn't allowed here. Just browse different channels until you find what you like.

AVGN. Pat the NES punk. Hard4games.

LGR is good. 8-bit guy if you are into retro hardware (with some bonus repairs).

The rest aren't really trying to educate or showcase, they are just comedy shows or personal reviews, and should be treated accordingly.

I mean I like AVGN, for example, but I know I am not going to get any new information or insight from that (except that Sword Quest episode, being an US-centered contest it was something I had no way to know unless told). It's just a dude putting a little show with a game as central focus, and that's downright harmless. The problem is when people believes the stuff the guy is clearly exaggerating as a joke to be the absolute truth, but I put the blame on the audience, there.

On a bit of a tangent, there's a dude named ZetaPlays that is kind of terrible, but plays the games on a roulette spanning the entire NES/SNES/GEN sets, and I've found a lot of interesting and obscure stuff nobody else ever talks about from that fact alone. Pity he doesn't include the MS/GG/GB sets, those have a lot of obscure shit one would need to see in motion to get an interest into.

LGR, MetalJesus, 8-bit guy for some weaponised autism. Ashens does some good things from time to time.

But he has zero insight. His opinions on what makes a game bad and how it could be solved are usually shallow or show a general lack of understanding of basic game design.

It's the videos in which he's particularly cantankerous and juvenile the ones that are really fun to watch; if you remove that, he has little else to offer

AVGN has some pretty good videos, I personally like the earlier seasons better but his later ones are also pretty good, but with less energy, if that makes any sense.

Game Sack is the only real answer. Actually good insight mixed with dad humor.

If you want actual insight into old games read some of the pages from hardcore gaming 101

If you don't want to read, you don't want insight.

>Actually good insight
Not really, their commentaries are rather bland and when Joe tries to go technical it always comes down to how muchs megs the game has and if it has parallax scrolling.

OP, you're better off reading vidya magazines from back in the day. I mean, they're not super insightful and there's a lot of shilling, but it's better than youtubers.
