>you can play modded games from special carts if you plug the original on it.
So just to be absolutely clear, you can play a ROM or romhack of, say, StarFox while you have a physical StarFox cart plugged in on top, right? But you can't play a StarFox ROM if you have Stunt Race FX plugged in on top instead (even though they both have the Super FX chip).

The documentation around that special chip access feature is so sketchy. For a while I wanted to buy one, because I have on Super FX game and I thought combining it with a Super UFO would let me play all Super FX games, but as far as I can tell now that is not the case. Correct?

Thanks bro! A lot of people have been digging that. I picked it up a few weeks ago at an arcade expo. They also had lots of console and old PC gaming stuff set up there, and I was able to play a lot of things for the first time (MSX2, Vectrix, CDI... etc.)

I had actually been very disappointed with the vendors as they had fuck-all in terms of games or consoles, but this guy was selling these SNES posters and I picked one up. I kind of regret not picking up a few more, he had some themed around Super Metroid and Secret of Mana.

Put it on top of something! Even just some bricks or cinder blocks would probably be enough to get it up into your visual range from that couch. True enough; In his case, it mainly looks like he found a set that could be wedged in rather well, given it still has the original front face. Although neutron-star heavy, the handles make it somewhat manageable. A top tip for carrying it is to remove the plate glass screen cover as it's like a centimetre thick and probably weighs close to 10kg by itself!
I wish I had the cover. Got one on my 20" but unfortunately they're slightly different sizes and not interchangeable. A well built speaker is a well built speaker, and if the speaker builder/designer did their jobs correctly, a monitor and a home Hi-Fi speaker should perform similarly. The reputation of monitors sounding "flat and dry" doesn't come from the speaker qualities itself, but from how the speakers perform in spaces with heavy acoustic treatment, like a studio. Humans are used to listening in reflective spaces (and prefer it), so listening to any speaker in a damped room will sound flat, dry, lifeless, etc.

They may be playable with little issues, but there are issues for tons of games. A flashcart just takes the guesswork out, because you know everything is going to work with NO issues. The only reason I'd ever go back to emulation is to play Pokemon Stadium with a savefile from a ROM or something. Plus, having easier access without adapters to good controllers like a Horipad or the Brawler 64, or even the original is worth it.

Depending on the games you want to play and your requirements, Wii WADs may be "good enough" for a lot of the officially released games.

There's also WAD injection, but it's bothersome and far from perfect.

Thank god im in England. Sony trinitrons are dirt cheap and they all come with scart. Every tv i've owned since 94-95 had scart.

Though the struggle of connecting a scart cable, blind, that's against a wall with just your hands and god's will has always been a nightmare.

s-video (and two more plugs for audio) is worse. At least with scart you know if the connector is rotated 90 degrees the wrong way.
