Came across a PS2 but unfortunately only have newer Widescreen TV. I already changed the aspect ratio but games still look 'blurry'. Any way to improve the image without getting a CRT? Have those HD (green, blue, red)composite cables for it but not sure if those would help

Not retro read rules
get a CRT

PS2 not retro, yes. But same problem with any retro console

Those are component cables, and they should make a pretty noticeable difference on an HDTV. Just make sure you set the video to Progressive Scan in the OS so you get 480p in games that support it.

only way to fix that is either get the component cables or the official ps3 s-video cables, if you just use composite the image will look like vaseline is all over the screen.
also just get a decent crt tv, problem fixed

this

But you do in fact want to use a CRT or emulate a PS2 if imagine quality is at all a concern. It's the most interlaced, jaggy-ass system ever and better cables will give you a clearer picture in the literal sense but will only highlight that fact.

The PS2 just has horrendous video output in general even if you're using component. I use a homebrew software to force games to upscale to 480p but it really doesn't make a big enough difference that it's something to go out of your way for. The amount of PS2 games that even have alternate video modes is very slim too so you're not missing out on a whole lot I guarantee you have at most two or three games that would benefit from it.

I have the component cables for mine and it looks much better than the standard composite ones. A decent amount of the later games support widescreen and a few support progressive scan.

What everyone is getting around to is that you need to use a progressive scan signal. Right now you're just sending a high quality interlaced signal over your cables. You can soft or hard mod your console to run a homebrew utility called GS Mode Selector and force progressive scan in everything (with some glitchiness in some software) or you can refer to the following list of games that support progressive scan and other non-standard video modes without modification.

you should never use av cables. S video is the minimum

He's using component cables

Well I will be. TV doesn't even have component plugins. Have to find a component to HDMI converter first

PS2 has garbage image quality sadly. Even via a PS3

>> No.4640849

Best bet is a PS3 with image smoothing on, hooked up through a gaming variant of that new mCable. but the cable is 100 dollars

Never heard of doing it that way. Explain.

You don't spend enough time or reddit. First PS1 on PS3 has it's own problems. Second all the memecable does is blur shit so you don't see as sharp jaggies on an HDTV. It's basically the same filter shit the N64 has built in that everyone wants to disable.

If you don't have a CRT you need to emulate.
