Pokemon should have updated it's mechanics for the n64, i would kill for a 3D pokemon game with real time battle (similar to pokepark but more polished) and a fully realized world/pokemon ecosystem. So true. Online guides are a ubiquitous too. Speedruns exist for almost all popular games.

Once mysterious games of our youth have been dissected to such ridiculous, gamebreaking levels.

These games have been so thoroughly exploited that Tool Assisted Speedruns exist of older games, stretching what is possible with the game.

Furthermore, the ROMs themselves have been scrutinized heavily, yielding a wealth of information that would never normally be available to the player, such as previously cut content.

>Banjo-Kazooie
I remember entering a contest to win this game when I was a kid. My mom knew it wasn't going to happen so she took me out and bought me a copy. That game completely captivated me. I used to take the strategy guide to school and look at it while my teachers were trying to teach. One of them caught me looking at it one time.
"So, anon, are you trying to say this is more interesting to you than learning?"
"Well, yeah"
>Ocarina of Time
I remember having an issue of a gaming magazine before I got this game. It had all sorts of pictures and special stuff, and I would look at it all damn day. There was also a little Christmas catalogue in the back of the magazine with OoT figures, and despite having not playing the game, I wanted them so badly.
When I finally got the game, and when I finally beat it, I felt so accomplished. I ran upstairs and told my mom that I had beaten Ganon with 100% genuine pride.
>Diddy Kong Racing
My cousin and I used to play the shit out of DKR and bond over it. I never beat it, but I god damn loved it so much.
>Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles
My first video game. I remember going to Best Buy or something with my mom to get my first console. She told me "okay, anon. You can either play Mario or you can play Sonic." It was the ultimate decision to me. I wound up going with a Genesis and I spent so much time playing Sonic 3 over and over. I used to play it with my friend from across the street, I'd let him play as Sonic and I'd play as Tails. Like other games on this list, the day we beat it I felt we had accomplished something amazing. We started a new file the second it was over.
>Pokemon Red
My first serious gaming addiction. Took it everywhere, rarely put it down. I used to miss the bus for school because I CAN'T PAUSE DURING A BATTLE! THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT! Beating the Elite 4 felt so amazing. I've tried to replicate the feeling Red gave me by playing other Pokemon games or starting a new file, but it's just not the same.

Conker's Bad Fur Day. Nothing like it has ever been accomplished successfully since. Just me and my buddies laughing our asses off at how hilarious the game was. And I'm sure it still has the best graphics for the N64, that game just looked magical.

I've sorta outgrew the crude humor of it a little bit but I still look at that game with a sense of fondness. My friend still has his old cart.

I somewhat agree. Multiplayer in person meant that you would normally play with people you liked.

Now, you just play with any old faggots who own the game and are online at the same time as you.

This was the game that introduced me to action RPGs and I love it. It was the first game that I was so into, I couldn't stop playing and actually fell asleep during the middle of playing. Getting new moves and testing them out in battle, to me, it was the future of RPGs.

It was the first time the idea of wanting to be the little girl came to me. Or that may be because I remember that Rena gets Dias from a gaming magazine. But I was kinda into Ranma 1/2 at the time too.

This hasn't been posted?

The way the stages got exponentially more detailed and the explorable area of the hud grew as you unlocked characters/abilities just let my mind run wild with all the anticipation of what was to come.

So much time going through levels, imagining how they could be used by characters I hadn't gotten yet, and how they could be used by characters I'd thought of. I just couldn't get enough of it.

We still duke it out whenever we get to see each other. We're equally good now.
