What is the most revolutionary game of all time and why is it Super Mario 64?

>> No.4629202

Epic falseflag, my dude.

Also, when will sixth gen be retro?

How about as long as the games are from before 2003?

>> No.4629252

You know, the rules were "games older than 15 years are retro"
well, it's been a few years. why the arbitrary change to no longer being 15?

Because Asianmoot is just as aloof and neglectful as moot was.

>> No.4629343

The original SMB was by far more revolutionary, being the first video game and all.

>> No.4629437

Because of the invention of jumping. No other videogame featured jumping in a videogame before. Nintendo broke new ground with their innovation and dedication to push the industry forward.

similarly it was in mario 64 that running in a full 360 degree circle was possible. that blew minds.

because the PS controlling for Resident Evil was a fucking nightmare.

How did Nintendo do it, lads?

also, that soundtrack cannot be denied.

SM64 still has the best 3D platformer physics and control

>> No.4629482

>>4629464
Yeah nah. Mario Sunshine greatly improved upon precision and ease of control, while maintaining the same basic control layout, plus the fludd. Not saying sunshine is better, just that the control is more polished and thus superior. Like a midget standing on top of a giant.

Have any of you crackers gotten max coins in every level?

One of the hardest Mario challenges since lost levels imo.

Is there a reference list of how many is the absolute max per level?

Mario 64 had basically no impact on other games. All the other 3D platformers followed the Banjo Kazooie formula until the genre died. Yes, even though Mario 64 is great and those games suck.

Ocarina Of Time was way more influential, with the context-sensitive action button that eventually morphed into how AAA games work now. And I don't even like this game.

Are you 12?

>> No.4633198

Only games I can think of that specifically followed the Banjo Kazooie formula is DK64 and Jak & Daxter.

He's right though.

Movement, including jumping, in 3D was first done by Tomb Raider.

Mario's influence extended only to a small fad of 3D platformers and it's own game series.

>similarly it was in mario 64 that running in a full 360 degree circle was possible

Asteroids had that LOL

If you meant running in a circle in 3D

Ultima Underworld had that, when it invented xyz coordinate based 3D. Tomb Raider is also a huge innovator in 3D.

Thinking Mario 64 was influential or 'the first' in anything is a sign of idiots who are completely ignorant of gaming's history outside of consoles. It's an astounding level of stupid.

Mario 64 wasn't even the first 3D game. I would say Sonic the Hedgehog is the most revolutionary game ever created because it made the mascot platformer a thing, crushed Nintendo's monopoly, introduced the wonders of blast processing, and sold over 15,000,000 copies.

That's not the rule, the rule is consoles released before 1999

>> No.4634896

Mario 64 was a big game for its time. I kinda think it was a turning point for games as a whole. No more could a game with flat sprites be considered anything other than limited. GoldenEye shocked the world as well, showing that the gritty drama of war could now be experienced as well as seen. 3D on TV gave us what VR promised but unlike VR it delivered. Only now are we scratching the surface of what we can do when we replace the TV.

It has like six songs total.
>dire dire docks
>bobomb battlefield
>rainbow ride
>hazy maze cave
>cool cool mountain
>lethal lava land

And then the Bowser level and the castle theme, the boo level if you count that. Kind of overrated as a soundtrack desu.
