Do USB adapters have input lag or is it the emulators that do? I'd like to use a Saturn controller to play fighting games on PC but I'm concerned about input lag

both. you probably wont notice though.

buy a retrolink and gut its internals and put them inside a real jp saturn controller

I do own a japanese Elecom USB adapter for my Wii Classic Controller, and yes, its laggy as hell, and the shoulder buttons arent analog, making playing 6 button faitans a chore, even the Hori EX2 stick i own has less lag.

and yes, its noticable.

im not an autist so i don't know but this adapter is great

Any particular reason why a JP one is preferred?

Do you know if there's any difference between the launch grey controller and the white? The price difference on Amazon is significant.

I have one for Ps2 controllers and it works perfectly. Cost me 2$ on ebay with free shipping

I have that same mayflash adapter and it does not have any more lag than a wired 360 controller. If you like saturn controllers then it's definitely worth it

You guys sold me on it, I hope I don't regret this. Ordered a retrolink as >>4607943 suggested, shouldn't be too much trouble since I've already cracked up Genesis controllers to clean them.

>>4612405
Thanks for the input. Even if I'm not using one right now it's good to know Mayflash makes some quality products. I'll probably have to use some kind of adapter if all they got are PS4s to play on in locals and tournaments

it depends on the usb adapter, all do but some are noticeably worse than others, i have 2 ps1 adapters one that's laggy as fuck and one that's indistinguishable from a usb pad.

I have never harmed a controller in my life please don't think of me as that kind of person

Well, a USB adapter definitely has to do a significant amount of signal processing. So it's going to add some amount of latency to input. How much is going to depend number of factors including the software implementation and the MCU in the converter. In any case, it's going to be pretty minor compared to the latency inherent in emulation itself as well as the HD display latency (especially if using a television or non-gaming display).

the usb interface is the lag and not the adapter itself

>> No.4613881

Well, it would effectively remove all latency in the adapter itself. I guess you could call that magic if you were retarded. There'd still be latency involved on the PC side since USBs and drivers aren't magic.

>>4607929
I have a Mayflash SS adapter that you have pictured and I use it with my ASCII Saturn Stick for shmups and I haven't noticed any input lag at all.
Just be careful though, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive hub on steam won't pick it up as a controller even though every other game I played didn't.

Also the playsega Saturn USB pad sucks

How exactly would it "remove all latency in the adapter itself"? Since it's not magic that causes the gates to configure to do whatever some kid on the internet dreams of there must be some way you can describe it. Me and everyone else usually describe it using an HDL. But this is subject to the laws of physics and has whatever non zero latency the design gives it. And that can be yuge with a bad design. Is there a hidden menu in quartus that has an option like "create zero latency meme device"? Or are you just parroting misinformation about something you don't understand?

how are those triangle shaped blue transparent PS2 dongles?
