Hey guys, I'm just starting using RetroArch, got pretty much every Nintendo console working, but I cannot set up the PSX core correctly. I have downloaded the mednafen psx core, placed shcp1001.bin on the /system folder but the I tried loading some games (cue sheets, bin or iso) and it just closes. What am I missing?

>> No.460379

You are missing the fact that PSX is not /vr/ related, it is too new.

PSX is included, moron.

Not OP, but bumping out of interest. I have exactly the same problem.

>> No.460542

Didn't know this existed. Thanks, OP. Been using another emu to player Terranigma on my Nook, works okay.

>> No.461009

It needs "scph5501.bin", you can just use SCPH-7003 BIOS with that filename.

>> No.461115

>>461009
Thanks! this worked.

Had to put the bios in the ISO folder though, it seems that it doesn't recognize the /system folder. Do I have to setup it manually? I thought it was the default folder for bios and stuff.

>> No.461252

For future reference check the error log for information next time. I had this problem and looked and saw the error showed it didn't have the BIOS.

What's the point of using retro arch? Really?

Conveniently using multiple emulator cores with only one program to set up and configure. Or, if you want to use bSNES and avoid its abstract file policies.

Yep had to configure the folder manually.

Everything is working perfectly now, some of my ISOs don't work (Castlevania SOTN and Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), might be bad .cue's, I dunno.

And I'll check the log from now on.

>dat color pallet
is that a filter of some kind?
any gb games that i load with gambatte just use their default color pallet in standard gambatte (metroid 2, for example) or black and white if there is none.

also, since we're talking about retroarch, is there anyway to use gambatte's gba mode for gb and gbc games that are gba enhanced (i.e. shantae, oracle games)? i know gambatte on its own supports it, but i'm wondering if maybe there's a line i could add to the config that would do the same thing.

>> No.461454

>>461305
Yes because taking more work to set it up clearly means you're lazy. Oh and liking a better setup for your emulation is lazy too... smart.

Does anyone have a .rar with retro arch and all of the files configured?

Oh, alright.

Also fixed the SoTN .cue sheet, it had a bad link.

It's a shader

https://github.com/HarlequinVG/shaders/tree/master/gameboy_shader

It may not work with AMD cards, but it loads fine with my Nvidia card.
You have to use a build of the gambatte libretro with the GBC bootloader colorization disabled:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/htuztl6go2o6sha/libretro-git-gambatte-x86_64.dll

>also, since we're talking about retroarch, is there anyway to use gambatte's gba mode for gb and gbc games that are gba enhanced (i.e. shantae, oracle games)? i know gambatte on its own supports it, but i'm wondering if maybe there's a line i could add to the config that would do the same thing.

There's no way to do that currently, but they're working on creating an interface for changing emulator core options.

>> No.461535

>>461519
alright, thank you for the link. and that's pretty neat about the second part. that'd be a lot more helpful since it feels like retroarch is currently just assuming you're only doing snes emulation from some of its options.

> since it feels like retroarch is currently just assuming you're only doing snes emulation from some of its options.

Well it was originally called SSNES and it only loaded the bsnes library, but it was expanded to work with any emulator library that can be modified to use it's "libretro" API.
Some of the options it has are holdovers from when it just SNES.

Hopefully the GUI will get a refresh someday since it needs it badly.

>> No.461574

ah, that makes sense. well, i hope everything goes well for them. i don't want to have the interface become needlessly complex since i like simplicity, but i do hope more configuration options are added, at least to the settings.

>> No.461825

If it's simplicity you want you should compile OpenEmu and use it for all your emulation needs.

>> No.461869

Having every single thing in one application.

This might just be the future of emulation as a whole; Mac has OpenEmu which follows exactly the same concept.

what gui?
I have to start retroarch via command line, and the resulting window is just the emulated rom, nothing else, no controls or anything

also, is there a wiki or something that explains the goddamn config file? The default from /etc has a lots of comments, yes, but some pointers as to "how the fuck are the different filters called" and what not would be bretty nice...

retroarch-phoenix.exe is the gui

Also, anyone has a list of the keyboard shortcuts the emulator uses? I can't find it and alt-tabbing to quit is getting old.

I'm happy this thread is up, I too am starting to use retroarch and I have a few questions, I hope it's not too much, and I tried googling it, but it seems retroarch is pretty weak on the documentation side, it definitely needs a wiki, but anyway here goes nothing, if anyone is up to answer some question I'd appreciate it:

1) Why do some cores ignore the save path and just put the save files wherever they please?
1b) Can I fix this in some way?

2) Can I use different configurations for different emulators?

3) Can I load shaders through the command line?

4) Can I set up a BIOS folder instead of the system folder?

5) Why are they using genplus core instead of picodrive?

6) Any known plans for a MAME core?

7) Why is the zip extraction not working on my x86 machine but works fine on my x64?

8) What is that "Check for ROM Patches" checkbox?

And I think that's all, thanks in advance if you're willing to respond.

>> No.467229

>>467179
1) Not sure. I don't have a save path, so they just throw the saves in where ever the games are.

2) Not that I'm necessarily aware of. One option is to configure your emulator and then do the SAVE RETROARCH CONFIG option in the menus. Doing this, you could just have separate configs.

3) Don't know. I use phoenix.

4) The only option that I'm aware of is to put your BIOS in the same folder as the game and don't have a system directory set. Either that, or make a BIOS folder and use that as your system directory.

5) The Genesis Plus GX core is arguably the most accurate Genesis emulator out there right now. At least on par with, if not better than, Kega Fusion.

6) Not that I'm aware of.

7) Again, no idea.

8) If you have an IPS with the same name as a ROM, it will soft patch the game with that IPS. Good example would be some translation patches or ROM hacks. I usually just hard patch my stuff, though.

Sorry if that's not very helpful. I'll, at least, bump this so you might be able to get better answers.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I mostly just use phoenix to get to know how it works, but I want to load everything from an external launcher (Advanced Launcher in XBMC)

Yes, there's no psx or n64, but everything else works quite nicely, even fba an csp.

it allows you to play with all the different controllers and schemes. i sue it along with wiiflow and having the multiple consoles box covers flowing is just gorgeus.
