Two of those games I used to just knock out after school to unwind but Chakan really is extremely hard. I've beat it but it wasn't fun. Ditto for Ghostbusters which isn't on the list but is harder than 7 & 5 which is funny because it starts out easy and fun. I think Shadow of the Beast is mainly hard because the controls and physics are rough. Ys 3 is also extremely hard to beat. It has a nice pleasant difficulty ramp up until the final level then literally takes everything you've got to actually beat. Popful Mail is pretty punishing as well thanks to Vic Ireland if we're including Sega CD games.

This fucking game.

It starts off fairly easy, until you discover that it has a difficulty curve that rises pretty steadily throughout the game. Then you get to the last couple of levels, and it suddenly spikes through the roof.

But as challenging as the levels themselves are, they are fucking NOTHING compared to the last two bosses. That motherfucking wolf wizard guy who telekinetically throws rocks at you belongs in a bullet hell shooter. I have no idea what kind of sadist you need to be to put a boss like that into a children's platformer.

It was one of the first games I bought with my own money. It's far from being a great game, but the atmosphere and artwork ensure that it'll always be a personal favourite. The story is pretty cool, and is based off a series of graphic novels by the same name.

Revenge had a hard last boss if you were trying to get the perfect ending. Shinobi 3 was just easy all around. Only the jumping at the end could be considered difficult. I'd sooner put Sonic Spinball on the list than I would Shinobi.
