The release date. It needed another few months in the oven.

Interesting concepts, boring execution, characters were nothing special.
Dragon Quest V did it better.

Pretty sure it was a different team, so they probably had the time.

Too far ahead of it's time.

The UI for combat is fucking abysmal.

No, it's fairly well documented that it was a rushjob. The same problem that PS2 had. They were both in development at the same time by different teams and they were both rushed to release, severly lowering the ultimate quality of the games.

Explain it to me. I'd like to play the game if I could figure out what to do.

Those battle themes.

>> No.4603276

I'd do a second playthrough of the game if the battle themes didn't get on my fucking nerves.
The composer must have been high as fuck on speed when he made music for PS3.

Mute the game, then. It's not like you need the sound in a turn based game to react and execute.

That people don't realize Mieu and Sari are some of the best PS girls.

Are they worth playing if I've gone through pretty much every SNES and PS1 RPG?
I played PS0 and PSU back in the day but that was my only exposure to the series.

PS1 and PS2 are classic dungeon-crawlers. PS1's dungeons are in first person, while PS2 is overhead like most PS. PS2's dungeons can be ball-bustingly frustrating and you'll have to do a lot of money grinding for weapons, armor, and to keep your healing items stock up to shape. PS1 has most of its grinding frontloaded in the early parts of the game and its dungeons can be easier, but the final part of the game is going to require you either make a map or have a map available.

PS3 is somewhat dungeon crawlery, but the dungeons are much less difficult than in PS2. Your character is slow as molasses when moving and it's clear the game was rushed at several points, but still worth a try. The generational aspect only makes things different in the second generation; the third generations are basically the same, minus your starting points and if you get a very useful healer version of a character or a piece of shit warrior version of that same character.

PS4 is a lot closer to games like Final Fantasy in terms of presentation, but the gameplay has the neat ability to set macros so you can make a macro for quick trash-killing or a quick-use heal and attack macro for bosses. Characters are a lot more fleshed out in PS4 than in previous games and tend to talk with each other. You'll miss some callbacks and an area you visit near the end of the game might be a little confusing if you don't beat the previous games, but it's not necessary.
