controller thread

what are your favorite controllers for emulation?

What's the best affordable controller for all-around gaming that has analog sticks? So far the best option seems like the 360 controller because of how easy it is to use four of them with just 1 usb dongle, makes it very appealing for playing multiplayer n64 and PS1 games in my living room setup. But of course the d-pad is shit.

Pic related is the best SNES controller I've found

>> No.4596068

PS2 controllers are much cheaper than 360 controllers and you can get double converters but yeah, I use 360 controllers the most on my PC too... Though that doesn't automatically mean I think they're the "best"

I don't remember ever holding a SNES controller, but every picture I've seen of it makes it look uncomfortable as fuck, like it's too big to fit in the hand like a NES controller, but no grips to make it comfortable like later controllers.

they're pretty comfy, they're not much bigger than an NES controller at all.

Hard pass on the 8bitdo SNES controllers with analog sticks though. They looked cool at first but immediately upon using them you realize how terrible the ergonomics for them are and how unusable the analog sticks are

I use my Wii and a Classic Controller Pro for pretty much everything, except PC games and MAME. Fucking perfection.

The Xbox One controller is actually really good for emulation. The D-pad is much more responsive than most Xbox 360 controllers and copycats and the action buttons also work great. Not sure if the back triggers are good for emulating pre-32 bit consoles but they could be useful for something like that I guess.

Cannot wait to get this. First game I want play is either resident evil 2 on either my pc or phone. And some shmups

>> No.4596408

I use a corded 360 controller just because newer games will have a map for it, I'd use a PS2 controller if I didn't have to map it every time.

I use a ps3 controller now. I used a corded 360 controller for years wow I love Bluetooth

pic related for retro/2d games

xbox360 pad for more modern and 3d games.
it's not perfect by any means though.

my wii classic controller pro is quite nice too but it lacks the pressure sensitive trigger buttons that many games need.
it's sort of in between them.

this anon is unironically right, the XB1 controller is all around perfect. the d-pad is one of the best i've ever used. only downside is it needs a different wireless receiver than the 360 controllers so that's another 25 bucks
for n64 emulation i just bought pic related last week. for $12 bucks from amazon it's actually pretty great desu

Forgot to say, nice buttons and d-pad, no sharp edges, comfy as fuck. The top L/R buttons tend to be sticky, though.

I like the analogs, it makes playing star fox a lot more better than a D pad

I've been using a PS2/3/4 as the previous one has worn out. They've all been great for what I need them to do. I've been tempted to get a third party controller, like the Ibuffalo, in the near future though.

Are there ANY pc controllers with 6 face buttons and 2 analog sticks? Besides XBOX, I hate that controller.
I've never liked playing N64 with the C buttons mapped to the joystick.

I have the same iBuffalo controller you posted and a Logitech F310 for analog sticks.

The F310 is good; all the sensors are high quality and the controller itself is small enough that I can hold it using my fingers instead of in my palms like a gorilla. It's not exactly my ideal button layout, but it has everything you need to match the xbox controller that a lot of modern games assume you're using.

Heh, purchased a Wii to USB adapter by ELECOM but it is shit cause has noticable Input Lag, fuck, even my HORI EX2 360 Stick doenst have that much lag!, also the button shoulders are analog and is a bitch using them in fighting games.

>> No.4597496

>>4597409
I use this a lot, but it's not really that comfortable. The shape is barely ergonomic and the flat part on the back rubs against my fingers. The shoulder buttons are kinda crummy. The DPad is functional but not as reliable as older cross d-pads, like NES/SNES/N64.

The Switch Pro controller is way more comfortable, weighty, ergonomic, and the buttons feel nicer. Get that instead.

>> No.4597678

>>4596107
It's a horrible controller, with a bad d-pad, and horrible ergonomic, I won't even start on the design.

>> No.4597723

No, I bought the Classic pro around the time that monster hunter game came out because I thought it would be a nice Nintendo take on the playstation style controller.

I have this and the N30 Pro. However, haven't used the new controller yet. Hope it's better than your opinion.
