I know it's an unpopular opinion but I think CT is vastly overrated. On all aesthetic fronts it is AMAZING, but the gameplay is so tedious. I got incredibly bored of the pseudo-scripted battles as well.

Too much difference in character ability. Marle never gets used and Lucca is barely used either. Everyone plays Crono, Magus and Frog unless they killed Magus.

I agree, it a good game but nowhere near as amazing as people like to make it out to be. It was also extremely short compared to a lot of its contemporaries.

In my opinion no. For those who enjoyed the game, it was the result of a specific moment in time. It wasn't possible earlier or later. Before its time, games needed too be harder and there was less effort into the characters and plot. And later, the story side of videogames got out of hand, and one of the merits of the game is being tight. Just look at the new Zelda (or for that matter, any new videogame) where you are expected to play it for more than 10 hours until "its get good". If you criticise the game no one will take you seriously if you haven't played the game longer than that.

It is a product of its time. Like chivalry books or impressionism, you don't expect it to return.

time travel always sucks and this is no exception. if an exception exists it's terranigma, but that's not really time travel in the traditional sense. even ocarina of time was made completely obnoxious by idiotic time travel puzzles.

I'm a huge jrpg fan and I too found the combat tedious. It definitely has it's merits though. Great looking game. But personally, I'd rather play a Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest game.
