>> No.4589780

Every time you post this, I get triggered by the RE2 picture you framed. Completely ruins the vibe of your room. Framing posters is tacky in general but you framed a picture you presumably printed out yourself with the white borders still visible. The contrast is just ugly and makes it stick out in a bad way. I don't know how you thought that would be a good idea or look good.

>> No.4589870

>>4589590
Yeah, I'd say 27". I grew up playing on a 20", and use a 20" now because it's an RGB monitor, but it could certainly be bigger. I had a friend with a gorgeous 36" JVC he got in the early 2000s, but it was absurdly heavy. (After he moved out of his parents' place, the TV is still sitting in his old room collecting dust because nobody wants to try and get it down the stairs), and I had two different 32" sets that were still too fuckin' heavy, even though I could kind of manage moving them by myself. 27" is still heavy, but not quite as cumbersome, definitely a good balance. I would never want anything smaller than a 20", though.

There was only a dark patch in my life of about 1 year from 2014 to 2015 when I didn't own any kind of CRT.

the frame is just a little too big lenthwise. its a real poster and not printed out with white showing...i though i pointed this out to you before. im not worried about the white showing if its symmetrical, and until i find a frame to fit this oddly dimensioned poster thats just how its going to be. also, putting up posters with thumbtacks and tape is even more tacky and if you can frame it, thats always going to be the better option. if i had to nitpick anything from the room it would be the atrocious wires on the ground out in the open.

You'll probably catch a lot of shit from the haters, but this is a great setup. I'm not personally a fan of LED lighted shelving, but it's very well done. IMO the only thing that needs changed is the lcd needs to be a crt, but again, that's personal preferences.

What's that console on the bottom right? Where do you store your controllers? What are you using to hook them up to the tv?

I really do like your setup, keep up the good work!

I'm currently working on converting a 2x2 cube shelf into a better looking and functioning "gaming center". I plan on removing one vertical divider and mounting a 13" bvm in the top section and totally modifying the layout of the shelving. There should end up being 4 "cubby holes" to hold various consoles.

One shelf will hold toploader NES and SNES 101, next shelf will be Genesis model 3 and PC Engine, lower shelves will be N64 on one, and Saturn + Dreamcast on the other. If Saturn and DC won't fit, I'll put the Master system there and those on top of the unit. Also the top will hold an Atari Jr. Right beside the monitor will be PS2 on one side and Wii on the other. I have an idea to manage cords and am going for a clean look. I'm sick of the snakepit that is going on now. I may actually reserve one shelf for a switcher or something too, I've not fully decided on the layout but it has to be clean as hell.

I'm not the best "carpenter" but this thing has to look right, I don't care if I have to redo it 10 times to get it right.

I was in the process of moving when I took that picture. It was "everything". I went through storage and tested EVERYTHING. Sold off redundant stuff, and kept the goods. Took apart every system and dusted it out. It was tedious. Cataloged, and stored as necessary for the next decade.

The vials and shit is vape juice because I am a filthy addict.

You can see the corner of the hearth poking out right next to the laserdisc player. No, nothing is installed close enough to the fireplace to get hot or smokey-smelling. There are three bottles of wine, one of which is a duplicate of the other, meaning one is probably low or empty. The other bottle of wine is probably a lighter wine or a bottle of champagne or something.
The final two bottles are beer bottles that someone has already been drinking out of or finished.

Looks like a normal spread for 2-3 normal people. Plus I'm pretty sure I see a purse strap in the background. If it was all guys, or people who didn't intend to go home that night, there'd be a lot more empty bottles sitting out.

Sharp made good ones, sony trinitrons, pretty much any brand is ok though. Wega is kind of a meme but they were pretty good. Honestly, just find one with the size and hookups you want and don't pay over $40 or so and you're golden.

I'm just saying, some of you guys have your setups well organized, wondering how women react. I'm pretty sure they ask questions when they see an SNES, laser discs and a record player, guess it could be a conversation starter. What do you feed women when they come over? Wine and sushi or chinese food? I have an ok battle station, but its very spartan in appearance, but it's in a guest room, I always keep the door locked when I have a woman over, last thing I want is a woman in my game room touching my stuff and god help her if she made fun of me, liable to lose it. I have five hundred records and a very expensive esoteric audiophile setup in my living room attached to my television unit, and not a single person has given a shit about my records, selection, taste, or interest in music or the equipment therein. If you don't focus around it all the time, it will just become like any other furniture. That is typically how individual hobbies operate.

Essentially, of you've padded your personality with several traits Andy interests, nobody will be weird about your interests. Its only if video games are your ONLY interest. Then you're the shut in that chooses anime or games over a night out sipping tea, or a few beers, or water, whatever with a couple friends, despite knowing the video games aren't going anywhere. Whereas your friends are going places. And they might not always be available. Or around. Or even alive.

>> No.4627185

>>4627108
Anon, despite what "redpill" guys would have you believe, women are people too. They will react differently, depending if they have any interest in the subject or not. How would you feel if a woman talked to you about a childhood NES or riding horses, archery, or shoe shopping? Probably interested to not interested depending on what you find interesting. If you find a woman is really vacant or dumb, you'll probably not enjoy a long term relationship unless you like to feel superior or like the smart one in a relationship.

You seem too worried about what people think of you. I'll assume you're young. Honestly people live their lives and barely think about anyone not in their sight. It's also the reason people are so mean and nasty at places like wal-mart. They are so distracted by the constant stream of stress inducing thoughts and distractions in their own brain to even see other people as people. You need to learn flow and living in the movement. Maybe try clearing your mind with meditation or something. Life is too short to worry about how others perceive you all the time, especially when there's a 99.9% chance they aren't even thinking about you.

Also, not that you said anything of the sort, but another lesson is, people aren't against you. They are independent beings just like you doing what they feel is best for their life. If someone is just nasty they aren't worth spending time on. They may grow out of it with maturity or may never change. Surround yourself with good people and don't be afraid to be laughed at. If you want to paint, do it, even if it looks like a 5 year old did it, it's still interesting to look at and it's the process of doing things and experiences that matter in the end.

As far as what you feed them, it depends on the person. The things you mention seem too try-hard to be honest. A pizza or a meal based on chicken would probably be a decent bet. If she demands wine with meals that would be a red flag to me.

I like that it looks like you've put some thought to hiding cables. As an anti-cable-fag I think you are just a few steps away from having a nice clean setup. I like that your controllers are seperate to your consoles. I assume they are stashed out of sight until needed? I've got little rectangle baskets that contain each console's periphirals stacked out of sight in cupboards under the entertainment cabinet. When I want to play something (typically N64) the basket comes out and everything is there. It goes back in the basket after playing.

Ditching the wireless rack eventually and having a wider solid wood cabinet that hides your cables would be an improvement; but reasonable that you wouldn't just go out and buy furniture on my account. I lucked out (in a good way) and got a large coffee table with drawers built in. The drawers hold baskets with games and controllers. It's excellent to pull out a set of Wii motes and hand them around without standing up; have the console boot itself and just switch TV channel - bam you are playing a game.

Personally I'd ditch the amiibo showcase but obviously they mean a lot to you.

That is very crisp, and orderly. I do enjoy your choices, and think we could share long conversations about how our taste is much better then everyone elses.

I got all my controllers unboxed from our recent move and checked them. Somehow my son destroyed 3 out of 4 Xbox controllers. I have a green one that is barely used, and in the mail I have a few OEM ones+ a duke this week. I don't have nearly the software collection, as I have migrated to space savings of SD cards and hard drives.

You have a similar "small-ish" area for systems. Where/how do you manage your controllers? I have a small tote nearby that has light guns and controllers of all shapes and sizes, but hate it. Id love to have some side table that has everything.

It is my only issue...controllers. I hate winding the wires up around them, so I hoop them ....they get all jiggered up in the box, and end up making knots anyway.

That is how I usually buy. In bulk and possibly not working box lots. Most of the controllers that have been destroyed were things that didn't work when I got them. I get really goofy about used electronics. I take everything apart day one and clean, and wipe everything. I havn't been able to get out in months, and with moving I was trying to reduce the space I take up. In a way it is sweet that they are all broke. I managed to save a really nice green shell,so it wasn't a a total loss. Plus the hot sticker right on the middle top of the tv.

I think they don't sell because people buy the aftermarket ones. I never used an aftermarket, and question the quality. Sure I just talked about my kid busting my xbox controllers, but it really took both of us and a previous owner 18 years to do it if you look at the big picture. I gave my brother my 250 gb and he uses the generics, I may have to compare.

I opted for clone hardware. Both the Flashback 2 and original Super Retro Trio features clone chips instead of being a pure emulator box. I am looking around, especially in these battlestation threads, for sound system and TV stand suggestions and ideas.

I bought that from an arcade expo a couple of weeks ago. They call it an arcade expo, but really they also have all sorts of old consoles and computers there. Really cool stuff.

The vendors mostly sucked though. The only decent thing there was this guy who sold posters like that. He had a bunch, but this one really caught my eye, as I'm a big fan of Chrono Trigger and that is one of the more memorable scenes.

Currently have 9 consoles hooked up to the 2 Tvs I've got in the room. I took this pic before going through the thread and feel absolutely embarrassed by this setup and my small collection.

To clarify 2 things: Yes dusting this all off is a shitshow, and I use the RetroDuo because all 17 of my NES' keep breaking and someone stole my only SNES.

This is how it stands as of now. I've got more in the basement, but I'm gonna be lazy and not take a picture. The Genesis is with the 27xbr because it benefits the most from rgb, while the SNES, Saturn, and usually the ps2 are on an s-video switch on the big tv.
Things I've got to fix:
The apm speakers on the Sony are busted so I've got to refoam them
The geometry on the big tv is perfect but I've got to fix the convergence. If only I knew of a service menu, but I can't find information on it. The user manual lists the tv repair locations certified to work on this tv (in 1991), so I plan to call one that's still open and see if they've got anything.
One laserdisc player is broken, needs a fix.
The 27xbr's baby brother, the 20xbr, is all out of wack and needs more work than I think I can give it -- plus the tube is fairly worn out.
