Can we talk about Donkey Kong Country 3?
It was one of my favorite games as a child on the Super Nintendo, unlike others I didn't felt dissapointed by it, I love the graphics, the music (a reason I don't like the GBA port is the different music), the bosses, the lost world...
It was a vastly different theme from 2, we went from pirates to B-Movie theme but god damn it was it enjoyable.

Fuck the Spider boss using Kiddy tho

It's my least favorite of the original trilogy, but it's still solid. The progression with the map was neat.

This one is pretty up there for me. My other favorites are Water World and my number one would be Cascade Capers. I prefer Eveline's style to Dave's, even in the first game (my favorite there is Northern Hemispheres). I guess my taste for 70's synthesizer ambiance (Klaus Schulze and the like) is showing.

I feel like most of the people that shit on DKC3 or say it's the worst would change their minds if Kiddy were DK and Ellie were Ramby. Most of the complaints I hear about the game end up having "KIDDY SUCKS I HATE HIM" at some point, if not being the only point for why they dislike the game. If it were DK and Dixie saving Diddy, I'm sure a lot more people would open up to it.
That aside, I think DKC3 is the second best in the trilogy. I've heard some say that it has a really tough difficulty (which I would have agreed to as a kid, Mekanos was a major roadblock for my childhood) but I think it's pretty easy in the beginning and doesn't truly start to gain any noticeable difficulty until K3, with each world from there experiencing some stair-step difficulty. It's also got the best secret hunting I feel, it's the most fair with how it challenges you because rather than a bunch of jumping in death pits or looking for fake walls it usually hints you as to where the secret is or at the least just takes a bit of exploring to find. I played the trilogy back to back and didn't even need to use a guide for DKC3's secrets, where as I had to use it two or three times for DKC2's harder secrets and quite a few times for DKC1, which is probably the least fun to get all the secrets for because of how cryptic they can be. The post-game world is also fairly challenging without being Animal Antics hard. Cartoonish style and musical compositions aside, I think DKC3's got solid gameplay basis and is great for secret hunting, I still like DKC2 more but I think it's got better polish that puts it above DKC1, which is still great in its own regard despite being the least developed and polished due to being the first.

I like all 3 of the DKC games, and find them all to be exemplary games. But find 3 to be the “worst” because the atmosphere feels artificial to me.
I mean the first and second title feel like going on an adventure. The third feels laid back and like I’m watching a play.

I don’t know if that makes sense. I just don’t feel as connected to the game in the third one as I do to the first 2 games.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a lot of nostalgia towards 3 and i beat both 2 and 3 two week ago. This is how i feel.

2:
+Best level design
+Best music
+Better final boss battles
+Best lost world levels
+Diddy and Dixie are great to play as and are almost equally good. (Dixie's better)
+Swanky's quiz
+Good Boss fights
+Kino ending shot
+Enemy variety
+Comfy music in the most stressfull level (Barrels)
+Rambi
+Cranky and Wrinkly tips
+Coins are more usefull
- Too short
- Music gets repetitive after a while
- Cart level with the Hip-hop ghosts
- Ugly backgrounds and levels with exceptions being Vine, Bee, Ship and Castle
- Squawks levels (except the Bee boss, that was a good boss)
- Squawks racing level
- Saving system
- Map and World navigation
- Need coins to choose worlds even after beating the game

3:
+Best world map and navigation
+Setting
+Beaultiful backgrounds and levels (Exception is that place where you need to open the doors)
+Birds sidequest
+Good music
+Enemy variety
+Good boss fights
+Music
+Game Over screen is terrifying for children
+Bears
+Saving system
+More Kong throwing in order to clear levels and get Koins
+Getting the Koins
+Ellie is a fine replacement for Rambi
+Makes me want to go mountain camping
- Easier
- Mediocre final boss
- Squawks levels
- The Last world is FUCKING SHIT 0/10
- Last level before the final boss is the WORST DKC level i ever played. Gimmick inverted controls with cheap enemy placement.
- Dixie is a must for several levels
- Some levels are almost impossible to beat with Kiddie
- K.Roolestein, the genius scientist that is transforming animals into machines, used magic to trap a giant banana bird.
- Swanky is repetitive
- That fucking Enguarde boss
- If you fucked a barrel throw in order to get a Koin you need to die
- No Rambi
- Some enemies appear only in 1 or 3 levels
- Less Cranky
- Silver coins are useless after you get the Mirror and the shell

The environments are amazing, I remember when I was little I didn't know why the snow world was named K3, now I get that it's a reference to the mountain K2.
I'm not a big fan of all the fetch quests on the overworld, or the "simon" banana bird games. but most of all I really hate the whining and crying when you lose a level, that's probably the worst thing about the entire game....

DKC3 has most of what made the series good, but has a few issues that really kill it for me:

1. Heavily nerfed platforming physics that make the Kongs feel super heavy and hard to control compared to 2. Air speed is heavily nerfed, making it difficult to control yourself in the air. It's most noticeable in areas where you have to alternately jump left and right to climb a screen (like in mountain levels). In 2, you would be able to jump immediately upon landing without problem, but in three you have to awkwardly turn around and gain speed on each platform before jumping. It kinda reminds me of the jumping controls in Mario Bros. arcade.

2. Over-reliance on stage gimmicks.
Sometimes it's really cool but the bad ones suck real bad. Reverse-control swimming, half-speed platforming, ghost barrels, lightning lookout, and the koindozer stage are all a pain to play, even when you get good at them.

3. Other physics oddities like how you can get hit out of a roll while still in the roll animation (exists somewhat in 2, but far more common in 3).

4.. The bosses are some of the most creative but also some of the most annoying. This is minor compared to the other two.
(Fuck barbos forever.)
