Stop being a weeb faggot, this will help much more and much faster than any video game ever could.
If you don't care about that advice then try Truxton II.

As my depression becomes more severe I find I'm replaying my old favorites more and more rather than playing new games. Not because of anything in the games themselves, just because I already know what to expect and stuff.

The adventures of Lolo series for the nes are remarkably difficult puzzle games and if you like them, they can offer a good distraction.

If you want something more action oriented, try For Whom the frogs toll for GB or the Violinist of Hameln for the snes.

I know that feel. Retro games were the only thing that kept me happy during my shitty childhood.

I'd say that Little Nemo The Dream Master best encompasses my lifelong feelings of escapism, childhood wonder, and the joy of looking forward to what tomorrow night's dreams might bring. It was basically one of the few things in my early life that was trying influence me positively ...somehow.

Got to take my mind off the cause of most of my life's problems FUCK THAT ABUSIVE PIECE OF SHIT! I'M GLAD TO KNOW HE'S DYING OF CANCER! Unfortunately, there's still the issue of THAT ASSHOLE'S SHADOW FOREVER LOOMING OVER MY MISERABLE SOUL UNTIL THE DAY I DIE!

Well OP, keep fighting the good fight. You'll always have an ally in retro games, I know that I do.

Off topic, but the N - Acetyl Cysteine vitamin helps me feel less depressed on a daily basis.
Niacin helps too, but the skin flushing will turn off a lot of people.
Consider saving up for TRT as well.

To get back on topic, try playing Shōnen Ashibe, the import only game starring a seal.
The key to depression is to distract yourself long enough to get by, but not overwhelm yourself with too much decision making.
It's sort of a platformer with some puzzle elements.

Parappa the Rapper, fun, comfy and pretty light hearted. Katamari Damacy[/spoiler} is good but not retro, goofy fun with simple yet engaging gameplay.

Sometimes you just need to play something to not think. Games like Tetris excel at this, as do some shmups.

I'm a huge fan of Umihara Kawase. I think this could be a good game for dealing with depression, it's action oriented enough to keep you occupied, and difficult enough to keep you trying to get gud.

Anon, hang in there and remember the feelings you are experiencing now are not permanent. Don't chose a permanent end to fix a temporary problem. I've been where you are now and what you're feeling is real but it will pass, there's better times in the future even if it's impossible to imagine right now. Might want to check this link out, it's Daniel Harmon (Rick and Morty creator) talking about dealing with this shit. https://www.boredpanda.com/dealing-depression-answer-dan-harmon-rick-and-morty/

Also vitamin D. I used to work 2nd and 3rd shift and it fucks with you. It's like seasonal affect disorder but all the time. Your skin makes vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, without it you feel down and lethargic.

>Why would you want the advice of an alcoholic on how to deal with depression?

Maybe he used alcohol to deal with depression. I have no idea about harmon's background but it's solid advice.

I'd also add stardew valley but it's not retro either. It has pretty good flow and keeps you distracted. It's one of those games you say "I'll play one more day" then you realize 3 hours have passed.

>> No.4587204

soul blazer for snes is a good distraction. it does a good job making you feel like you're really accomplishing something at a steady rate. i used a walkthrough to get past a couple parts but in general it's very straight forward. interesting level design and a neat story that's presented more like background music than the main performance make it a near perfect action rpg.

the sequel terranigma is even better but a little less charming and a little more story driven.

>> No.4587483

Dragon Quest V, Paper Mario, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound. Something that will take a decent chunk of time with characters to interact with.

A good shmup can help to, if you're able to put intense focus into something. Maybe a roguelike, try out one of the classics. You'll be too busy trying to find out how to keep moving forward.

You'll get through it, OP. We all do.

Veering not retro due to platform but the 3DS version of Dragon Quest 7 was uplifting to me due to it's handling of themes combined with very classic JRPG gameplay and how every new island was it's own story. (often following something akin to corrupted tradition -> corrupted dismantling of tradition -> restoration of a less corrupted society)
Another old standby that almost always get me in a good mood is classic point and clicks, Monkey Island series, Simon the Sorcerer series, Discworld series, Quest for Glory series, the Broken Sword series, Legend of Kyrandia 2, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Rose Tattoo etc.

I've yet to come across any non-anonymous forum where that was the case. There's always cliques and political nonsense that's not necessarily noticeable until you've stuck around for a while. (though some cases are obviously worse than others)

When I was depressed I was too apathetic to be able to focus properly on gaming. My negative thoughts would distract me so much my gameplay became very sloppy which in turn made me commit silly mistakes and because of it I'd feel worse and would tell myself it wasn't an activity worth spending time anyway. The only game I had patience to play was tetris, but after a short period you get used to it and don't need to use your brain as much so the thoughts come back.

Only passive entertainment like music and tv were bearable when I felt tired of just laying down. Star Trek helped me cope with those times a lot.

Anyway, SNES Aladdin and The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse are very colorful and cheerful, give them a try.
