what are some games with good secrets and I don't mean some herpaderpa room with meaningless money in it. Money means nothing to me in real life and barely more than that in video games. I am referring to actual good secrets that last a while, like a hidden quest, not just a boring hidden room that goes nowhere.

If you're talking about anything more meaningful than that, I would argue it bad game design to make it so you have to find a well hidden secret to progress the game. Secrets are usually rewards, not the means to beat game. Unless maybe youre talking about finding secrets for true endings/alternate paths. Star Fox had a lot of secret paths that could be achieved through specific conditions that would lead you down different paths. Also very common in RPGs to have secrets that affect the story. For example, saving Shadow in FFVI was supposed to be a """secret""", and it has a lot of impact to the events with Interceptor, Relm, and the Colosseum later on.

In Riven many mechanisms do not make sense and puzzles seem obscure. That infuriates people who quit the game out of frustration and tell everyone how terrible it is.
However those who are used to old adventure games and not afraid to take notes and analyze would discover that there is a numbering system and alphabet different from our own that makes things much easier to understand. Later, the game gives it to you as-is, but you can discover that on your own.

Revenant - fiddling with spell system in a logical way (you discover spells for quick cast by combining runestones) would earn you several spells that are otherwise not mentioned in the scrolls.

Arx Fatalis with its kinetic spellcasting - you can reverse-engineer enemy spells since they draw them in theair just like you do. This also allows you to discover otherwise unobtainable spells.

Live A Live's Bakumatsu one has a load of things you can do because of how it's played. Kill no humans and you get a secret, kill no women and you get one of the best items in the game, most bosses are optional in general on top of superbosses, a whole player character you could miss, etc.

All chapers are self contained until you finish all of them, so it's worth just for that.

That game is pretty good and is indeed based around secrets. I never got too much into it, though; the controls are a bit meh (like pressing select to change between weapons) and the couple of scripted parts (like at the beginning) make it a bit boring to replay since it takes a while for it to get good.
