I have a supergun that I use with my NG MVS, Golden Axe, and Puzz Loop PCBs. I don't have much but my apartment/budget can only fit so much. I also picked up a Pandora's Box last year because why the fuck not

MVS Carts:
Metal Slug 2
KoF 99
Neo Turf Masters
Puzzle Bobble
Crossed Swords 2
Samurai Shodown 1
World Heroes 1

I'm always on the lookout for cheap new additions, would love to get my hands on a Neo Geo shmup, but those are almost universally expensive (or they suck hard)

I've mentioned this at least once here before.
I'm from Spain, and the arcade scene here used to be very strong. This all happened when the PlayStation came out; its success was so huge it devoured the rest of the market, to the point that since then people call consoles "plays" here.
When it came out you could see PlayStations in the arcade for which you could pay a coin to play for a limited time. It was THIS bad.
Shit died so quickly it's ridiculous. I guess the credit feeders just abandoned the arcades entirely and operators just closed the centers.
I miss being able to play stuff like Truxton II without having to emulate or import PCBs or whatever.

Cabs are: Astro City, Blast City (non-stock monitor), Neo Candy 29 (in the middle of a capacitor replacement, monitor has been sitting out of the cab for like 2 years), The House of the Dead (have a Virtua Cop 2 boardset as well), Lost World (upright, not the big sit-in model), Area 51: Site 4

Other than that, I have many arcade PCBs, like Splatterhouse, The Simpsons, Battletoads, TMNT, TMNT TIT, Final Fight, Nemesis (looks like a conversion from Konami GT), Gradius II, the three CPS1 Street Fighter IIs, Makaimura, SonSon, several CPS2 and MVS carts, a couple Naomi carts, and many others.

About 12 years ago I started working for a company that ran an amusement route. They had a ton of classic cabinets and I'd buy anything they'd sell me if the price was right $100 - $300 . I ended up having a mini arcade in my kitchen. Ikari Warriors, Rastan, SMB VS cabinet, Golden axe, and a Turbo Outrun sit down. I ended up moving a few years later, and there was no way to take this stuff with me. I ended up selling it all at a profit. The Turbo Outrun I sold to a friend in the neighborhood, ended up rolling that mini Ferrari cabinet down the street to his house.

I guess I'd say wait till you own a house to start amassing this kind of stuff!

I dunno about the markets you visit, but i know that the market in penitenciaria is DEAD, theres absolutely zero old games there, the only retro things i found last time i went there was a busted out snes case and a loose snes controller somewhere else.

Right now the closest to retrogame stuff they sell openly are nes classic mini clones.

Ontario has always been bad for arcades. I've been to a couple arcades in Montreal, found some in Scotland, not hard to find some in the US, but Ontario is completely dead. Toronto has how many million people, and the only one is a funland place, technically in a different town, and they don't have any retro cabs anyway.

I was talking to the owner of an "esports" cafe in my town (LAN parties and fighting tourneys) and he said the city's government put in laws that tax any place advertising themselves as arcades, to discourage operations (remember that arcades use to be where kids could get drugs and tobacco off adults). As a result, nobody in this city can call thsemves an arcade without facing doubled electrical tax--and arcades aren't easy on electricity.

At least the local pawn shop got a HotD cabinet.

I should add that a few years ago the cinemas had HotD 2, 4, Time Crisis 3, some ManxTT, some Need for Speed games. Now it's those shitty mounted gun games: Transformers, Terminator, Alien. Kung-Fu Panda slapping game. Doodle Jump and Angry Birds arcade machines. It's disgusting. I'd rather plat skeetball. Also now you insert credits via some card that you have to load money on and scan, and games are like $2 a play.

Anyway, I've wanted to collect Neo, CPS2 and 3 since I was a kid, but I never had the income or space. I plan to build a supergun soon, but how do you guys end up with candy cabs? Do you need to know a guy or are you paying hundreds to ship from Japan?

>how do you guys end up with candy cabs
There is an arcade store located in the US called thegameroom that used to sell candy cabs, even listed them on eBay - I got two of mine from thegameroom. Not sure if they still sell candies or not. The third was off of craigslist (I'm in the Texas DFW area, so I was a bit surprised to see one on there). Prices were pretty reasonable when I got mine, but if the recent 1k+ sale of an Astro City on eBay is any indication, prices might have shot up since I bought mine several years ago.

I think one popular method is to get in on a group buy where a lot of people go in together to import a container of cabs from Japan.

Joust. I paid $50 for it but had to drive 6 hours each way to pick it up. We kind of treated it as a mini vacation. Gas was about $2 a gallon so it took about $72 worth of gas. The cab was "non working". I tried troubleshooting it, but it was beyond my abilities. I packed up the boards and sent to "the real bob roberts" (the hobby lost a great resource when he retired due to health issues). Evidently the chips had some kind of bad electrical damage because he fucked with them for like 2 months. He gave me updates every few days of different things he tried etc. He would fix one thing and another would show up, do burn ins and more problems. He said it was the most messed up boards he could remember. Anyway, he fixed it and shipped it back, only charged me parts and like $60 for labor. I'd imagine he put dozens of hours into fixing it, even being a very knowledgeable expert on williams repair. I bought a new CPO and a new P1 joystick assembly (they get worn from idiots trying to go up and down when it's left/right only stick) as well as a p2 stick and nos buttons for everything. Overall, I have about $350 in the cabinet and that's going all out with parts and such.

I bought a Joust 2 that was about 3 hours away. It's a pretty rare cabinet so it took several months for one to pop up.

Next arcade acquisition was an astro city candy cab that was about 2 hours away. It had a shitty "blue elf" multi board in it. The board was laggy as hell. I sold the board for like $75 to someone on klov with the knowledge that a lot of games had lag.

Purchased and traded around to eventually get the entire raiden series and related spinoffs pre raiden 3.

I also have a jrok multi williams which is a great little board.

Had a mame computer that hooked up to the candy cab, but it's in disrepair now as I had some weird issue with the front end on it. Someday I'll get it going again as the components are still good, but I've just been too lazy to do so.

>> No.4563002

>>4563000
Yeah, they are absolute shit. Even on a proper arcade monitor there was 1-2 seconds of lag in stuff like fighting games.

Other "stories" and reminiscing:

I remember when arcade cabs started going to 50 cents, and a dollar depending on the game. Me being a broke assed teenager had to focus on 25 cent machines for the most part.

I only had about a dollar left so was hunting for a good looking game. I came upon a game I'd never heard of before, but it looked really cool graphically. I put in 25 cents and finished my whole dollar on it. The game was so amazing that it became my go to game, even if I had extra money. Talking to others in the arcade, no one had heard of it and were very reluctant to try it, usually playing virtual fighter or MK, etc. That game was Metal Slug X.

I don't know why it was never more popular in my area, but fuck was it a good game. It's sad to think that a masterpiece like that got hardly any play while everyone put fistfulls of dollars into fucking virtual fighter. Looking back it's obvious that arcades were destined to fail once 3d became a thing. Gameplay wasn't important at all, what mattered was dem polygons.

Another fun game I played there was CarnEvil. That game was kind of short but it was pretty cool at the time. Those plastic shotguns and all the evil carnival atmosphere were amazing to teenage me. I'm ashamed to say I wasn't very good at it and had to resort to credit feeding to beat the game.

I remember at a county fair, they always had arcade tents. I played Cruisin USA on expert mode and thought I was hot shit for setting the top scores. Later to find out the score table resets when they shut the games down every night.

Arcades were sustained in the west by the credit feeding population. When you credit fee, the only thing you can appreciat about a game are the aesthetics, thus the graphicfags. Also, once arcades were no longer better looking that home consoles these guys no longer had a reason to go to the arcades. I wouldnt anon its not an official Neo Geo cabinet. that is a generic Dynamo cabinet used for a lot of fighting games especially Capcom. Very common cabs and not worth 900.

idk i guess they were normies. Its just a pc with an arcade cab encasing and a "hotrod" controller. I saw one listed for $1000 on offer up (where the pic came from)

$100 sounds fine, but damn, people must be desperate to pay nearly a grand for a MAME cab.

Am I the only one who hates the barcade thing? A bunch of stupid hipsters who can't deal with arcade wear and tear. BUT! Now with drunk young twenty something dipshits spilling booze on everything. If the 2 here weren't the only arcades I'm the state I wouldn't get so triggered. Sorry for the blog but figured it wasn't worth making a new thread.

these people dont even know what MAME is, they just see an arcade with a ton of games in it

barcades are dingy depressing hipster magnets from what I've seen, not the lively bustling fun of an actual arcade, it's disappointing but that's about the only way to keep one going short of being like chuck e. cheeses or dave and busters or japanese

nothing i own, save for a burning hatred for not owning a truck to pick up a $50 perfect Final Fight cab back in 2010.

i just had to drive 25 mins and put it in, but i didn't have a big vehicle and anyone i DID know was all busy. guy had to toss it because he was moving that day and couldn't take it with for some reason.

still mad 8 years later

as for arcade memories, way too damn many, i could fill a book. i think my favorite one was when SC2 was out and me and this group of random guys just would play the cab all damn day at the arcade. we eventually would meet every saturday and play SC2 for like hours. then they took it away and gave us SC3 AE. then the arcade closed down in 2005, it was a mall arcade too and it hurts looking at the crap store occupying the space now.

man, i kinda hate walking in malls now too. 99% of them don't have an arcade or if they do, its all ticket redemption shit.

This is my favorite machine and I was very fortunate enough to find a dealer who was willing to sell it to me. They also fixed the joystick and left the original projection monitor in it before fucking it with an LCD conversion. (Which I then replaced the bulbs in it so it looks good as new.) This also was the original machine I played back in 99 so it has sentimental value to me as well.

Official Neo Geo cabs only go for a few hundred. They're super, super cheap.

Yes, they have one at Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas. That's exactly what it is.

Yup exactly, used to have one of these, very heavy and DO NOT come apart. I loved it but I didn't have the space when I moved so I had to get rid of it. I would recommend the Red tent but they are getting to be more and more rare nowadays.
