I've been basically a jrpgfag but recently started to play arcades. I have played Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden, but i prefer the later for its tight controls and mindless killing (and being easier so far).

Can you recommend me more games in this style? are later installments of Ninja Gaiden worth it?

the entire NES trilogy is great, but play the japanese version of 3
2 is the easiest one

this is one of the worst remakes ever, due to the awful sound effects and music.

Play Strider, the father of Ninja gaiden.

And yes all the Ninja gaiden games are great. Each one is better than the last. As for the regional differences people talk about: the US version of 3 makes you take double damage, which I think is more fun.

If you like castlevania: 1,3, 4, Rondo, Chronicle and Bloodlines are strong ones. Dracula X is a divisive game, it's not badly designed but the game is basically a remake of Rondo with inferior level design so I think it's pointless. For version differences be sure and get the JP version of 3 which comes with enhanced audio. The JP version of 4 comes with red blood instead of green blood.

Also be sure and check out Shinobi 3, it's easily one of the top 10 platformers of the 16 bit era.

Ninja Spirit on the Turbografx is one of the greatest ninja games ever made, too.

>> No.4556508

As far as tight controls go, Contra and Super C are unmatched. Shadow of the Ninja is very similar to NG but has co-op and is easier. Batman has slightly more restricted controls and is more slow paced than NG but is an excellent game. Power Blade 2 is sort of a MANLY Megaman clone, decently difficult. Might want to check out some shmups too, Gradius, Life Force, Abadox, SCAT, Over Horizon, Silver Surfer. Difficulty varies but they are all fun.
>are later installments of Ninja Gaiden worth it?
Absolutely. 3 is a masterpiece IMO

Seconding Ninja Spirit, that's an excellent game and is so fast that it's pretty much a run and gun with more melee than usual.

Those aren't arcades but I get your point, they at least demand some execution.
If you want an actual arcade to begin 1cc'ing try Batsugun Special Version, go for the first loop.
Have fun growing out of JRPGs.

I have played contra in the past, but didn't draw my attention. For now i'll stick with melee gameplay, seems like ninjas are the favourite setting with the arcades i'm interested.

You don't need to emulate turbografx for Ninja Spirit, just use MAME. Play Mystic Warriors while you're at it.

I'm here to give you some Master System love.

You could try Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. This one is fun and super easy.
Ninja Gaiden for SMS is totally different from the NES games and easier, worth a try.
Kenseiden is also worth looking.

>The US version of Ninja Gaiden 3 is inferior to the Japanese version in 3 ways. Unless you really want a challenge I suppose. Greatly increased damage from all hazards, limit of 5 continues, and no password system. My previous patch addressed the first two problems, fixed the damage and you never run out of continues. This patch finally tackles the final piece, passwords.

tldr it's Ninja Gaiden 3 babby mode. Don't bother with it, OP, the US version is more fun.

They are action games for consoles. Sure, they are inspired by arcade games, but arcade games for instance usually don't feature infinite continues unless you cheat by credit feeding. You have to beat them without any game overs. They are more challenging even when we ignore this fact as well.

This (the arcade version, that is), plus the sequel. It's especially important that you don't credit feed in that one though.
